Mrs. Myers' Out on Monday, February 8th

Valentine's Celebration is Next Friday!

On February 12, we will celebrate Valentine's Day! It is an "early dismissal" day, so we will only have a short time after lunch (or time in the morning) to exchange Valentine's. This is not mandatory. Each child will decorate a bag here at school. For any child that brought valentines to exchange, we will get them into the bags! Here is one way to make this task so much easier:
  • Please do not fill out the "To:" section of the valentine card. Only have your child write their name on the "From:" section. This way, we can quickly have each child put one card into each bag. The children do not have to worry about accidentally giving a card to the wrong person.

Treats and candy are not required nor expected. However, if you want to bring something in, feel free! We will pass them out to share! We have 23 students in our class.

Rainbow Wall Wonders

Today we tested all students on their Rainbow Words. I am so excited to announce that the following students have moved up on the Rainbow Wall! Please help me congratulate them:
  • Red: Johnavan
  • Green: Savannah High and Ashley Joiner
Keep practicing the flashcards that were sent home. As of right now, we have learned all words up through the "green" wall. Work at your child's pace...but please practice nightly. Knowing these words by sight will help with fluency and guarantee reading success!

Yearbook Orders

Yearbook orders are being taken until March 11, 2016. You may place your order online at The passwords is EASTES. The cost of the yearbook is $12.00.

Growing Readers

The following students have moved up this week to their next independent reading level:
  • Aryelle Taufetee
  • Landon Strick
  • Lorelei Braniff
  • Braeden Bouse
Congratulations for all of your hard work! Remember, every time your child reads 10-15 books on their level, they move up on their "growing reader chart." Please read nightly with your students. They are making a lot of growth!

Awesome Spellers!

Today we decided to act like first graders! We took a pretend spelling test! I wanted to see if the students could write all of the CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words our reading series taught this week. Here is the list that I gave them directly from our teacher's manual:
  • Hob, can, hit, man, Dan, it, fan, Pam, Sam, did, not, hot, hdad, hat, pop
Your children should be able to sound out these words. This was the first time we tried to do an activity like this without pictures for the students. Overall, I was very impressed with their results! Check folders today to see how your child did on our "first grade spelling test."

The following students deserve a BIG SHOUT OUT for getting all 15 words correct on their pretend spelling test:
  • Lorelei, Joseph, Braeden, Aryelle, Kylin, Ameryah, Ashley, Jaylan
