Weiss Update 10/27/2022
October 27th, 2022
Parade Route - Starting at 3:00pm
Weather Permitting, we will have our parade at 3:00pm on October 31st. Our parade will start on the Weiss black top and go into Coachlight from our side walkway. Upon entering Coachlight, we will turn right on Coachlight St. toward Iverness St. We will then cross Coachlight St to go onto Iverness St. We will then turn left on Antique Rd, and then cross at Coachlight street back to Weiss. Our Woodhaven Police Department plan to be at our road crossings to help with this. If you are interested in watching the parade, please feel free to stand in the grassy area (not in other's yard) along our parade route so our students have full access to the sidewalk.
Halloween Update
Halloween is a fun and exciting time for elementary students. We would like to create an opportunity for our students to be able to celebrate it in school while still following certain protocols. If the weather allows, we will have our outside Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st at 3:00pm. All visitors will remain outside and view the parade along the parade route(details above). If it is raining, the parade will be canceled. The classroom celebrations will take place before the parade. Your child's teacher will provide you with information on any items that might be needed for their classroom celebration. Students will be allowed to wear their school-appropriate costumes on Monday, October 31st.
Few Things to Remember:
- Please consider a simple costume for school.
- Students should be able to use the bathroom independently while wearing their costumes.
- Please choose a costume that does not reflect violence. Inappropriate props such as blood, plastic swords, guns, knives, and weapons of any kind are not allowed even if they are a part of the child's costume. These could be saved for supervised activities at home.
- Students can wear costume makeup to school but we encourage families to keep Halloween as simple as possible.
Bus Message
Dear Parents,
As you are likely aware, school districts across the country are being impacted by bus driver shortages. Gibraltar School District is no exception. Throughout this year, there have been barriers that have delayed buses. Although we have taken every available measure to minimize this from happening, we realize that any delays or changes to transportation impact our families. As the year progresses, we will continue to communicate with you regarding our transportation concerns because we know they can cause stress and inconveniences to our families.
Currently, we are short-staffed in our transportation department. While we have enough drivers to make our daily runs right now, if more drivers than anticipated call off from work on a given day, even with supervisors driving buses and even with combining routes when possible it still causes the drop-off and pick-off times to be off schedule. We recognize when bus times are not reliable this causes stress on our families, but believe a delayed bus is a better alternative than canceling the route altogether.
While we continue to work diligently to help this process, our main goal is to not cancel any runs. If you have questions or concerns that you would like to discuss with your building principal, please do not hesitate to reach out to them.

Reminder News
October Character Focus
This month at Weiss our students are learning about what it means to be respectful.
At the end of the month, we will highlight a student from each class that has gone above and beyond to be respectful. With our students we talk about "being the best you, you can be". We also talk about the importance of manners, listening when someone is talking, and treating others how they want to be treated.
Take a moment to check out this 5-minute video about respect and feel free to discuss as a family some times when you have felt respected: https://youtu.be/GOzrAK4gOSo
Any additional conversations our students have away from school about being respectful will support our goals at Weiss.
