Why the battle was fought.
the battle was fought because Colonel Ranald S. Mackenzie set fire to the Commanche, Kiowa, and Cheyenne villages. In that firing few lives were lost, but the troops capurted valuablesupplies and 1,424 horses and mules.Mackenzie have tons of horses destroyed to prevent the Native Americans from retrieving them. Later, in early November some Native American bands defied the army and held out through a harsh winter. the last remaining Commanche bands surrendered in June 1875.
