Nuts & Bolts
September 24, 2018
I hope you all had a relaxing weekend. It is hard to believe that it is officially fall and September is coming to a close.
This week we have an early dismissal for professional learning on Monday. Assistants are expected to attend this professional learning and adjust your schedules accordingly so as not to exceed your weekly 25 or 29.5 hours. One of the main reasons for our changing to schedule to have Mondays for early-outs is for the entire staff to engage in professional learning together. Thank you for your participation. Monday's agenda is below.
Please bring your charged computers to Monday's professional learning!
Tuesday is the last Tuesday of the month, which means that our level PLCs do not meet and instead we meet as Vertical PLCs. You will get an email outlining your purpose and tasks for this first meeting.
Try to stay healthy and well rested as we enter the sick season. Thank you for all of your hard work and have a beautiful week!
Our playground is finally, finally completed. There were a few damaged / dented pieces on the new playground when it was delivered. The scratches and dents did not interfere with the integrity of the equipment, so the playground was built using these pieces until the new pieces were delivered. These replacement, non-dented, non-scratched pieces were delivered last week and installed Thursday. Concrete had to set on Friday, and is all good now.
Students may play on the entire playground Monday! If you are the first class out, please remove the yellow tape if it is not already off.
Thanks for your patience!
Field Trip Friday Reflection
Please have a plan for when students arrive to school before the teachers return. We know that the teacher cannot leave the field trip until all children have been picked up, which makes it extremely difficult when other students arrive back at the building before you. I do not have an immediate answer for this dilemma; but, ask you all to consider this factor when planning future field trips.
Hourly Staff Payroll Due Friday
Please ensure that your daily time-in/time-out is recorded in the binder, as well as on your timesheet. Please ensure that your timesheet is completed, legible, and signed by Friday.
Payroll will be submitted Friday based on what you recorded on your timesheet. If these documents are not complete or signed, your payroll will not be submitted on Friday and you will have to wait until the next pay period to receive your pay.
There were questions about Labor Day being a paid holiday or not. I asked our payroll people at Academica what holidays were paid out to hourly employees in 2017-18 and made the same holiday pay schedule for this year. Last year, the only paid holidays were Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. It is my understanding from you all that in 2016-17 (before I arrived), Labor Day was a paid holiday.
I understand and appreciate that several of you were expecting that as holiday pay and planned their hours accordingly for that week. I apologize for the confusion and stress this may have caused. I am researching our options now as to how we could include Labor Day back on our holiday pay schedule. Thanks for your patience.
