Student Council is hosting the annual food drive from Monday, November 13th to Friday, November 17th. Students are encouraged to take their food to the teacher offering the prize they want the most. As the seasons change and you clean out your closet, please bring donations of AHS spirit wear to the office or room 2503. The Kindness Club would like to host another Spirit Closet event this fall, but we need more donations. Thank you for your generosity.

The Kindness Club is hosting a Thank You Note Station at lunch on Friday, November 17th.

Seatbelts Are For Everyone or SAFE is a program focused on encouraging high-school students to form the habit of always wearing a seat belt. AHS participates every year. Next Tuesday and Wednesday is the first of four opportunities to sign a pledge card to always wear your seat belt and be entered into a drawing for Visa gift cards. I hope to give away 14, $25 gift cards before Christmas. Make sure and pay attention to enter all four drawings throughout the year, this will give you four chances to win the $150 grand prize in April. The SAFE Art Contest is now open as well. All entries are due by January 5th. The winner of the SAFE Art contest wins $50; look for posters throughout the building.

The lost and found is filling up!! If you are missing lunch bags, mugs, or other sundries please have your student check the lost and found!

We are excited to share a brand new opportunity for families in Andover! Have you ever had questions about how to support your children or their learning and not been sure who to ask? Take advantage of our program that will connect you with our district’s Family Engagement Consultant, Alysia Rich, for a one-on-one conversation to discuss your specific questions. Some ideas about topics to discuss are:

• understanding grades or assessments

• how to establish routines and habits at home

• how to best support your child’s learning

• behavior and responsibility

With changes from the Federal Government for the 2024-25 FAFSA, please note the FAFSA will not be available for completion until December 2023. The US Department of Education has not yet shared the expected exact date for the FAFSA launch but they are required – by law – to launch sometime in December. Amongst the many changes happening with the FAFSA are that there will be expanded eligibility for federal student aid and a more streamlined application process.

In the meantime, we’d advise students/parents to create their StudentAid.gov account now if they haven’t already so that they are ready to go when the FAFSA launches in December. Visit https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/december-fafsa for more information.

For a limited time, ACT is offering students the opportunity to get a free ACT registration. The student must register and pay for the December 9 test date. The student then will receive a discount code to be used for a free registration. The code must be used by January 31, 2024 to register for February 10, April 13, June 8 or July 13.

Students must have a physical on file before participating in Winter Sports. Physicals must be dated after May 1st, 2023. Athletes must also register on Final Forms.
