Friendly Reminders from HES Office Staff:
Morning drop off times, Tuesday-Friday 7:25-7:55.
Please continue to use one lane for morning drop off for the continued safety of students.
Students are to be dropped off on the sidewalk at the Elementary’s front entrance.
Please do not use cell phones during drop off.
At 7:55 the doors to the front entrance will be shut and locked. Staff are no longer monitoring drop off. The building sign will be placed outside that school is in session.
After 7:55 students being dropped off are counted as late. Parents are responsible for walking their child in to the elementary office doors and signing their student in.
- If you need to make a change to your child's regular routine for the end of the day, please send a note to the office. Calls are for emergencies, the school office is a very busy place, especially at the end of the day. If you have a schedule change for your student and it is last minute- please call Chellsie no later than 2:30.
Jr. Ag at HES
First off, we hope to see you all at our Plant/Chick Days & “Thank a Farmer” breakfast on May 1st (8am-noon). The students have been working really hard to prepare for this event and it is time for them to show off. Students have designed their own seed packets and they will be on display at the event on May 1st. All who attend will be able to view our “spuds in tubs” and hopefully our cabbage will be planted by then too.
Next, we have had our 1st annual “Chef Showdown”, and the winner is……. You will have to wait until next month for the winners to be announced. The Showdown expectations were to prepare a beef recipe while being videoed. The video must showcase preparing beef safely and safety in the kitchen. We would like to thank Mrs. Stults, the HS FACS teacher, for doing a demo for us in order to prepare us for the Showdown.
Finally, we have plans for May to have an Ag day for all of Highlandville Elementary. Stay tuned for more details and pictures of the event. The junior ag students will be sharing their acquired skills with all of the elementary to enjoy!
Honor Choir at HES
As we are wrapping up the last several weeks of school, so many thoughts and emotions are surfacing as I think about the students who have given themselves to a year-long commitment to their musical growth. These high-caliber student musicians who have stuck with choir through thick and thin, highs and lows, have put in an amazing amount of time, sweat, and dedication to bring you songs that will absolutely excite and move your hearts.
Our first performance will be in conjunction with the Middle School and High School year-end concert on Wednesday, May 12th, at Spokane High School. The elementary, middle, and high school choirs will be joining their voices together in three songs under the direction of Ms. Marissa Kyser, with the piano accompaniment provided by Mrs. Lisa Pitts. You will also be able to meet our new Middle and High School Choir Director, Ms. Haley Stegeman, as she will be assisting Mrs. Pitts at the piano. It will be an opportunity for the community to meet all three music teachers in the Spokane R-7 District!
The second performance for Honor Choir will be at the Spring Carnival on Friday, May 14th, at Highlandville Elementary School. In addition to our year-end performance, we are going to be honoring all of our departing 5th grade students as we celebrate their new upcoming venture to middle school. Whoopin’ and hollerin’ are welcome! ;)
To conclude our year, the final performance will be held at Spokane High School on Sunday, May 16th, to celebrate and commemorate the graduating class of 2021. We will be joining the middle and high school choirs to bring you Seasons of Love. We can’t wait to see you at the celebration!!!
Spring Carnival
Admission and food are free (donations graciously accepted). Punch cards will be sold ahead of time and at the door for use at games and for extra treats like cotton candy, popcorn, or sno-cones.
