BROOKWOOD'S Monthly Newsletter
June 2023, Joyful Teaching! Joyful Learning!
From the Principal's Desk . . . Jacqueline Cubberly
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
As we begin this final month of this school year, I find myself reflecting on our goals and accomplishments. We set high expectations for student growth in all areas, especially in reading and social skills.
Through our MTSS process, we have been able to provide all students with direct, explicit reading instruction based on their needs - a tall order that Brookwood has embraced. We are seeing student growth and look forward to continuing this process next year.
As we look at student growth, we also consider the social and emotional needs of our students. Utilizing Responsive Classroom strategies and the Zones of Regulation has helped students to understand their feelings and realize that they have the ability to make decisions about how to respond to various situations.
Collectively, we are responsibile for helping to shape thoughtful, responsible young people, who have a positive impact on those around them. We take our mission of Joyful Teaching! Joyful Learning! seriously, as we know how important it is for children to embrace learning and knowledge, while being kind.
We would like to wish all our Brookwood Families a fun, safe and joyful summer!
Jacqueline Cubberly

Arrival and Dismissal for Car Riders
Effective Monday, June 5, 2023
Safety is one of our top priorities. Currently, emergency vehicle access to the entrance of Brookwood is severely compromised during arrival and dismissal and in the event of a real emergency, time is critical for response teams.
Therefore, we will be utilizing the back playground for drop off and pick up for students arriving in a vehicle.
It is essential that parents/guardians follow the expectations outlined below for the safe and smooth arrival and dismissal of students.
Arrival – Doors open at 9:05 AM, do not arrive before 9:00 AM
- Gates to the back playground will be unlocked at 9:00 AM.
- Cars enter the bus loop and enter the back playground area, in a single line.
- At 9:05 AM, students exit cars and proceed to the doors for entry.
- Cars will be dismissed by staff, after students are clear of the drop off zone.
- The next set of cars will be moved up and students will exit cars.
*It is imperative that you not arrive early, as the gates to the back playground will not be opened until 9:00 AM and cars cannot sit on Haines Road.
At 9:20 AM – the gates will be closed and those who are late need to park in the front lot and walk into school to sign your child in as late.
Also, buses need access to the inner loop to drop off students.
Dismissal – Gates open at 3:20 PM, do not arrive before 3:15 PM
- Cars enter the bus loop and enter the back playground area, in a single line.
- Cars will line up according to their child’s grade level, K, 1, 2, have their own line(s) 3, 4, 5 are in one line.
- If you have multiple children, go to your youngest child’s line.
- At 3:35 PM, students will walk down their grade level line and enter their car.
- Cars will be dismissed by staff, after all students are loaded.
- One grade level line will be dismissed at a time.
*It is imperative that you not arrive early, as the gates to the back playground will not be opened until 3:20 PM and cars cannot sit on Haines Road.
Also, buses need access to the inner loop to pick up students.

- Dismissal – Junewood Walkers exit through the Media Center Doors, at 3:45 PM.
We are practicing these new procedures for the last two weeks of school, so that we can start the new school year knowing these routines. Thank you for your support.

4th grade students hearing an empowering message from Antoine Lovelace
Fourth grade students at Brookwood had the opportunity to meet and talk with Antoine Lovelace.
Mr. Lovelace, a former Bristol Township School District student, is a local owner of multiple businesses in the area.
He shared with students the multiple hardships and traumas he faced as a child and how he rose above them by working hard and having perseverance.
Ms. Everitt’s 3rd and 4th grade classroom enjoyed planting sunflowers to give to their Mothers or Mother-like adults in their lives for Mother’s Day.
Elmwood Zoo
The students enjoyed seeing many animals including giraffes, eagles, poison dart frogs, owls, sheep, tortoises, and snakes to name a few.
All of the kids loved to feed the giraffes and we learned a lot of interesting facts about them!
Did you know that their tongues are about 18 inches long and they are black and purplish in color to prevent them from getting sunburnt?
We learned it on our trip!
Fun was had by all!

Getting Ready for Next Year - Brookwood's "Transition to Next Grade"
The class and teacher will not be your child's teacher next year, they are just visiting to hear expectations and to know where that grade level is in Brookwood.
5th Grade students will go to our auditorium and hear about what to expect in Midde School.
We expect this to be a positive experience for all students, as they get a glimpse of what's next.
