Celebrating Month of the Military Child
Celebrating Month of the Military Child
Village Elementary, in partnership with our Navy School Liaison Officer and Military and Family Life Counselors, is proud to recognize all military-connected children this April during Month of the Military Child. On Monday, April 12, all students are encouraged to keep a look out for a table at the entrance gates to complete a special Kindness Tree decoration. Then on Thursday, April 15, everyone is encouraged to “Purple Up” by dressing in your favorite purple gear to show your support. All students will receive a special goodie bag to celebrate the strength, flexibility, kindness, and world-wide experiences military kids bring to our community.
To keep the recognition going, check out the events planned by the Coronado Library to honor our military kids!
· Community Action Mural at Coronado Public Library
All month long in the children's area, come add to the giant bulletin board, replete with a purple backdrop and huge world map. Add your favorite place where you and/or your parent have been stationed and what you enjoyed most from that experience. Art supplies provided.
· Big-Hearted Charlie Story Time - Thursday, April 15, 4:30 pm via Zoom
Meet Gold Star mom and author Krista Keating-Joseph as she reads one of her favorite books from her popular Big-Hearted Charlie series of children's books! Keating-Joseph will also answer questions from children in the audience. Geared to children and families. Attendees are invited to wear purple for the event in support of Month of the Military Child!

· Month of the Military Child Poetry Submissions Due Friday, April 16
Children in 2nd through 5th grade are invited to write a poem in honor of the Month of the Military Child. Maybe you belong to a military family. Or maybe your good friend belongs to a military family. Maybe you just want to show your appreciation for what it means to be a military child. All entries will be displayed in the Children's Library and winners in each grade will be announced by Silver Strand Elementary School principal, Jenny Moore, Village Elementary principal, Dr. Heidi Bergener, and Naval Base Coronado School Liaison, Mindy Hayes, during a Facebook ceremony the following week. Medals will be distributed to the winners! Email submissions to kgraham@coronado.ca.us by April 16.
· Month of the Military Child Poetry Awards Ceremony - Tuesday, April 27, 5 pm via Zoom
Winners of the Month of the Military Child Poetry Contest in each grade will be announced live! Winners will have the opportunity to read their poem and "receive" their medal. Event geared toward children and families.

Online Practice Tests for CAASPP
Details on how our in person and BRIDGE students in 3rd-5th grade students will take the CAASPP will come out soon, but we wanted to get the general schedule out to families as soon as possible! Since Spring Break is upon us, we also felt that now is a great time to get started practicing for our CAASPP testing.

HAPPY MINUTE UPDATE AND INFORMATION:
HAPPY MINUTE UPDATE AND INFORMATION:
We are excited that students are able to go back to in person learning!
Don’t forget that we are offering Happy Minute for grades 4th and 5th. (Due to little or no attendance, Happy Minute for 2nd and 3rd grade will be put on hold until future notice.)
Happy Minute is a semi structured peer cyber social weekly event. The kids will engage in socializing activities and just get to know each other in a low stress, monitored environment. We have organized a few games, but will also let the students set the pace and conversation topics.
We are adjusting the Happy Minute schedule to accommodate our Bridge and in-person students at the same time. Therefore, the Happy Minute schedule will be changed to 11:30-12:15 on Tuesdays starting on February 9th! Below is the link 😊
