CONTINUING STUDENT REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN
PUSD 2021-2022 Continuing Student Registration now Open!
Online Continuing Student Registration will be open from April 1 - April 30, 2021. Parents and Guardians will receive an email notification once the website is open. We must receive a completed digital packet for all returning students. This will allow for proper placement of your student for the 2021-2022 school year. This annual digital process will allow a family to complete one single “family” packet instead of completing one packet per student. Packets can be completed using any computer, tablet or smartphone with an internet connection.
Please ensure you can log into https://sis.powayusd.com. If you do not know your username and/or password, you can visit https://password.powayusd.com to retrieve your login credentials.
New for the 2021-2022 registration, families will be requested to select the Learning Platform desired for each of their students. There will be five different options for PUSD families to choose from. The options include On-Campus (TK-12), Virtual Connect Academy (K-8), Poway Virtual Courses (9-12) and Poway Home Education (6-12). Information on these different options can be found here.
Please email Ms. Mikels as soon as possible if you do not plan to return to PUSD or WWES for the 2021-2022 school year. Thank you for your attention to this important process.

Ramadan Choice Board ~ Ramadan is in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar April 12- May 12, 2021. During this sacred month, Muslims fast and pray to become closer to God. Ramadan is a time to focus on acts of generosity.
Autism Awareness Month Choice Board ~ World Autism Month starts April 2 and was created to provide opportunities to foster understanding and acceptance of people with autism.
National School Library Month Choice Board ~ April is National School Library Month. The library’s role in its community is important in so many ways. Encourage your child’s love of ready by participating in the service Westwood Library provides, purchase a book to donate from the Westwood Library Amazon Wish List, or donate a gently used, like new book your child enjoyed to the library. Others will, too! Want to check out a book about libraries from the library? Click HERE for more information. Scroll down for more about Westwood Library.

Chromebook doesn’t work properly. Include the following information: your student’s names and state the reason it’s no longer functioning properly for example, sound issues). We will record that it was returned and you’re no longer responsible for this computer.
You will be leaving Westwood Elementary in the near future.
You have your own device and no longer want a district issued device.

State Testing Update
A final district decision has been made in terms of state testing for the spring of 2021. Our district will not be administering the Smarter Balanced assessment for ELA and math in grades 3 to 8 and 11. We will also not be administering the Science test for fifth graders.
As you recall California applied for an assessment and accountability option to allow schools “to use the most viable option for assessment in their local context, including the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments and CAAs for ELA and Mathematics or other diagnostic, benchmark, or interim assessments.” Our district administers the iReady assessment which is one of the state's approved local assessments under this new flexibility.
- Our spring administration of iReady for all students including grade 11 will meet the federal testing requirements for 2020-2021 for ELA and Math. The spring window is May 17 to June 11.
- We also will not be administering the California Science Test (CAST) at grades 5, 8, and 12. Stay tuned for more information on this topic.
WELCOME ANA WATERMAN, OUR NEW ELL IA
I am originally from Ensenada, MĂ©xico.
I have a degree in Marketing, but Education has been always on my path, I find it to be a very rewarding job that truly makes a difference.
I’ve Taught English in México at Kindergarten and Elementary level, K-12 English Language Development at the Lincoln School District in Oregon, and recently moved back to San Diego with my husband to enjoy hiking, cycling and be closer to my family. I am very happy to be part of the Poway School District and get to know everyone.

RUNNING CLUB
Did you know that run club is still running this year? ;) Well, it is and we hope that your student(s) will participate.
Since we can't run on campus this year please tally your child's miles run outside of school for each month and then input the month's total in this form each month through May. At the end of each month starting in March, classrooms will earn the Golden Shoe for the miles most run. At the end of the year tokens will be earned per 5 miles run. Please only include the miles run from Feb 22nd to May 31st (google form will stop taking responses 6/2).
And here is a PDF of a run log to help your runner keep track of the miles they've run.
There are some great running routes on the PTA website https://www.westwoodelementarypta.com/running-club.html and you can also use https://onthegomap.com/#/create to calculate the distance of your own routes.
RUNNING CLUB TOTALS FOR FEBRUARY AND MARCH ARE IN!!
The 2nd graders had the most with a whopping 425.1 miles! And the Golden Shoe classes of the month are:
Kinder: Chambrone with 42.74 miles

2nd: Mashushita with 381.6 miles
3rd: Brennan with 85.74 miles
