Pinehill School Newsletter
Wednesday 16th March, 2022
Message from our Principal
Kia ora koutou,
A huge THANK YOU to all our teachers, staff, families and students who made our Pinehill School 25th birthday celebration week last week such a great one. Thank you for your kind words, cards and emails to the school wishing us a Happy 25th birthday and for sharing with us why Pinehill School is a special place for you and your family.
Our Tree Planting ceremony to commemorate this special occasion was certainly one of the highlights during the week. You can view the video of the ceremony here. Click here Pinehill School Celebrates 25 Years
We look forward to further celebrating in Term 3 when we are hopeful we will be in a time and place for our wider community to be involved and to participate in a celebration with us.
Three Way Conferences - 3WC
In a few weeks, during week 10, you will have the opportunity to attend a Three Way Conference to find out more about your child’s learning in the classroom. Traditionally this has taken place onsite in the classroom. However in the current environment we are in, these meetings will take place online via zoom. School will close at the normal time of 3.00pm on Wednesday 6th April with an early finish of 1.30pm on Thursday 7th April.
These meetings are a conversation between the student, parents and teacher that is focused on recent learning. It is one of the many ways of reporting to you, on your child’s progress at school. In a 3WC meeting, it is the child that leads the way by talking about their recent learning and progress. Not only is your child the best person to tell you about what they have learnt, but by talking about their learning they can build and deepen their learning. We will provide you information on how to book a 3WC slot in next weeks newsletter. In the meantime, please pencil the 3WC date/time into your calendar. The staff and children are putting in much time and effort into preparing for the Three Way Conference meetings. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Concerns and Complaints Process
Please refer to our Concerns and Complaints Policy which can be found on School Docs (information above) for further information.
If you have a concern involving your child and are wanting to follow up with a matter that has been raised, please follow the below process.
If your concern is of a general nature (classroom or playground matter)...
Contact your child’s classroom teacher to arrange a time to discuss the matter. All staff emails can be found on our school website.
If following step 1, the matter is not resolved, contact the Deputy Principal who oversees your child’s year level to arrange a time to discuss the matter.
Sarah Ward, Deputy principal for Year 1, 3 and 5
Rochelle Mabon, Deputy Principal for Year 2, 4, and 6
Depending on step 2, the principal may be involved during this meeting or to follow the meeting.
Attendance
We continue to average on a 75 -80% attendance rate at school. There are a couple of nasty bugs doing the rounds. Thank you for being diligent with your children's health, watching out for symptoms and for keeping your children home if they are unwell.
Changes to Covid isolation requirements
From 11:59pm, Friday 11 March isolation requirements for positive cases of COVID-19 and
their household contacts was reduced from 10 to seven days. From then, all cases and household contacts who are currently isolating can end their period of isolation after Day 7. Those currently in isolation will not have to complete their Days 8, 9 and 10 of isolation.
Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate for seven days. Day 0 is the day symptoms began or the day the test was taken (whichever came first).
Students must isolate for a full seven days and are free to return to normal activities on Day 8, if they are not symptomatic.
For example:
Positive Test result on 16th March – return to school 24th March
Positive test result 17th March – return to school 25th March
Positive test result 18th March – return to school 26th March
Positive test result 19th March – return to school 27th March
Please do not send your child to school if they are showing any symptoms of Covid, even after their required 7 day period.
All positive cases should be emailed to office@pinehill.school.nz or information completed directly on google form https://forms.gle/bnoEwa3gMEPZSpkx6 stating the date of the positive test or first symptoms (whichever is the earliest).
New Enrolments
Enrolments for Term 2 are now being taken at the office. If you have a younger child starting school next term, or this year, please let the office know asap. If you know of any families who have a 4 year old who will be starting school this year, and live in the Pinehill School zone, please encourage them to contact the office regarding their child's enrolment. Please see the schools website for zoning and enrolment criteria details.

Pinehill School Behaviour Management
Our expectations, procedures and support plan were reviewed by staff, a parent group and BoT in 2021 and now include guidance for parents. Please look at the attached documents which will also be available on the school website.
The Pinehill Way outlines the values identified by our community as the foundation for constructive relationships and behaviour for all. Staff model positive behaviour and set expectations, knowing that wellbeing is a key element of the foundation for a ‘learning focused’ environment. The Pinehill Way is displayed in the playground, classrooms, the hall and available on the school website in several languages. We use Respect and Integrity, aim for Excellence, learn Resilience and to take Responsibility for actions and choices.
Gratitude: a way to build positivity in our daily lives
Last week, we had a link to Hugh’s video on the importance of gratitude in our lives. If you didn’t get a chance to watch this video, here is the link again: https://theresilienceproject.com.au/parent-and-carer-hub-hugh/
As you can see, this is a practice that can benefit everyone, no matter your age.
Part of The Resilience Project is building the capacity in our tamariki for finding things in their day to be grateful for.
Below are some examples from Year 3 classes, reflecting their thinking and work around the concept of gratitude.

Sports News
Netball
Thank you for expressing an interest in winter netball 2022.
Netball is open to all children from years 2-6. Games are played at Pinehurst school on Saturday mornings through Kidzplay netball.
Fees for the season are approximately $55, Umpire fees are additional. Children will need to wear the Pinehill school red sports T Shirt and a black skirt and netball shoes.
Once the expression of interest has closed off, we will start to organise the teams, if required we will hold a trial to place children in teams. Every effort will be made to place your child in a team, however due to the number of children interested this may not be possible.
Once this process has been completed we will notify parents via email, inviting you to REGISTER and pay through Kindo.
*Teams will only be confirmed to go ahead if we have enough children and parent volunteers for the coach and manager positions, and fees are paid in full.*
Please fill in the expression of interest form and submit by 3.00pm Thursday 24th March.
