Harpool Herald Newsletter

Harpool Families,

We hope you and your family are enjoying this gorgeous weather! This week is "Start With Hello" week and there are several activities and themes planned. As we work on fostering student to student relationships, this week provides several opportunities for students to engage with other students. Specifically, Wednesday during lunch is "Mix it Up" day, and students will be sitting with other students they normally do not sit with. There will be question prompts, and most tables will have an adult to help facilitate conversation. If your child is one that may be nervous about this, please talk with them about the benefits of engaging peers that they normally wouldn't. We appreciate your support in encouraging our students to stretch and grow in this way. Further down in the Smore is an outline of the week.

Please note the following dates:

*10/7-End of 1st Grading Period

*10/10 & 10/11-Student Holidays

*10/19-Early Release Day at 12:30

*10/21-Longhorn Day!! (more details to come but we would love your help on this day!)

*11/16-Early Release Day at 12:30

Have a great week!

Colleen Grindle

PTA News!

Have you joined the Harpool Middle School PTA yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Parents, students, grandparents, aunts, uncles… all are welcome to join our PTA. Joining doesn’t mean you have to volunteer or donate anything! (Although we will never turn it down!) It just means you want to support and advocate for the students and staff of Harpool Middle School. Our goal is to have one person representing every student at Harpool as part of our PTA. Don’t wait!! Join today at joinpta.org!

This week Harpool PTA awarded $2,000 in grant money to teachers and staff at Harpool. Grants included flexible seating for ELAR and EXPO, Watercolor brush pens and Crayon melters for Art, Flute wind directors for Band, Calculators for our Math department, BreakoutEDU subscription and kits for EXPO, Jerseys for our growing G.O.A.L. club, and many more. We LOVE giving money to our teachers and staff to enhance learning in the classroom and support the extra curricular activities that help #MoveTheHerd. These grants are made possible by PTA fundraisers and donations to PTA throughout the year. The more we have, the more we can give back!

Harpool Middle School PTA is excited to kick off our annual Reflections program! Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for over 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. With positive recognition as the focus of this program, rather than competition, students of all ages and abilities can experience the benefits of creative expression and help in finding their own voice in telling their unique story.

This year’s theme is “Show your Voice!” The category rules and student entry forms are available on the Texas PTA Reflections website. The student or at least one person from their primary household must be a current member of Harpool PTA to participate. You may join at joinpta.org. For more information about the program reach out to the HMS PTA Reflections chair, Lissette Castillo, at lis.castillo09@gmail.com.

Attention 6th Grade Parents!

If your 6th grader receives 11-12 year old vaccinations at a well check during the 2022-2023 school year, please turn in a copy of the record to the nurse. This will help with state requirements necessary for registration when your child is going into the 7th grade (re: Tdap booster and Meningococcal vaccinations). If you get a waiver for any vaccinations from the state of Texas, the original document must also be turned in. If you have any questions, please call the school nurse at 940-369-1709.

Box Tops for HMS

Dear Families, Are you looking for a quick and easy way to support our school? Box Tops for Education has been around for over 25 years, and it really can make a difference. In fact, the Box Tops program has helped give almost one billion dollars to schools since 1996. The Box Tops app gives participants the ability to earn for any school across the country with just the touch of a button. Plus, the Box Tops app allows you to search for schools that could use a little extra help, so you can help give students in low-income schools the opportunity to succeed. HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops app to scan your store receipt. The app identifies eligible products and earnings are credited to your designated school online. Even if you’re shopping online or doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your digital or email receipt with the Box Tops app and earn. Twice a year, our school gets a check! See a list of participating products at BTFE.COM/PRODUCTS Box Tops earnings really add up, and the more people that participate, the bigger the impact we can make. So let’s give our teachers the support they need and give more kids the opportunity to succeed. Together, we can help make a big difference.
