Specials for the Week of May 12th- 16th
P.E. will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week. Please wear tennis shoes. Media Center will be on Thursday so please return you library book.
Congratulations to our Star of the Week, Chris Sutton!
All of our butterflies emerged from their chrysalis and we released them into their natural environment on Thursday!!
THANK YOU so much for making teacher appreciation week so special for Mrs. Hanagriff and I. We loved our fruit basket, flowers, sweets, and especially our cards from our students. I LOVED my personalized ceiling tile from my 2013-14 Class and can't wait to buy more apps for the ipad!! Mrs. Hanagriff is so excited to buy her long handled stapler!
Happy Mother's Day to all our moms. You are very special and have GREAT kids! Thank you for sharing them with Mrs. Hanagriff and I!
LANGUAGE ARTS
We are working on:
- * Building our sight word vocabulary: Our new words this week are: new, good, love, which, away. Students should know the first 50 Fry words
- * Knowing letter sounds and blending sounds and chunks together to make words
- * Focusing on reading words with a short vowel in the middle
- * Working on blends and digraphs
- * Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- * Learning to find the "evidence" in a text to support or explain the author's thinking
- * Learning to write an informational piece and phonetically spelling words to write a story
- * Researching and studying nonfiction texts about plants, , and other insects
- * Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers
MATH
We are working on:
- * Counting by fives, tens and ones to 100!!
- * Composing and decomposing numbers 11-19
- * Representing addition and subtraction with objects, mental images, drawings, expressions, and equations
- * Building combinations of 5 -10
- * Recognizing and knowing the value of coins; penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and the dollar bill
- * Counting forward beginning from a given number in sequence
- * Writing numbers and counting sets to 20
- * 1-1 correspondence
- * Comparing sets- more, less, same
- * Using our Math tools- the rekenrek and number line
- * Working on problem solving skills
- * Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- * STEAM unit on forces and motion
- * Exploring the life cycle of a butterfly and other insects
- * Identifying the characteristics of living and non living things
REMINDERS
- Our closing ceremonies for field day will be on Monday, May 12th at 2:00 p.m. Please wear a college themed shirt or your Boosterthon shirt on Friday and Monday!
- * Our extended days end on Wednesday, May 14th!!
- * Mark your calendars for our Annual Spring Kindergarten Program on Thursday, May 15th at 9:30 a.m. The time has changed due to a scheduling conflict.
