Thurston Colt Round-Up
Bi-monthly Student and Family Newsletter
From the Principal
October 9th, 2022
Hello Colts and Colt Families,
We are officially mid-way through the first quarter of the 2022-2023 school year. There are many activities going on around campus, and more are just getting started. We are looking forward to our Performing Arts department’s first in-person concerts, fall play rehearsals are underway, and homecoming is just around the corner. Please come out and support our students. Schedules of performances can be found on our website here.
We hope to see you soon,
Principal Pelster
We recognize that at our most recent home football game some students engaged in behavior that did not meet Thurston High School’s expectations. As an administrative team, we are working diligently to ensure that all students at our events meet expectations moving forward. If you have any questions about what we are doing to address this issue, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly (Kimberlee.Pelster@springfield.k12.or.us).

We will be conducting three lockdown drills this year. Our first will be held on Tuesday October 11th at 2:00 p.m. Students will be told it is a drill and it will be accompanied by an instructional slideshow. During the drill, students and staff will be prompted over the intercom. Prior to our first lockdown drill, students will have an advisory lesson to learn our school lockdown procedures. This lesson will occur during advisory on Monday, October 10th from 11:00 a.m. - 11:20 a.m. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our admin team or your student’s counselor.
Advisory Academic Support on Tuesday / Wednesday
Academic Support is a 20 minute block on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during advisory (11:00 a.m. - 11:20 a.m.) when students can connect with their teachers, complete test retakes, or get help on class projects and assignments. Encourage your student to use this time to support their academic success.
Walk-and-Roll to School Event: REVISED Oct 19th
THS Environmental Club is hosting our Walk and Roll. Anyone who bikes, walks, or takes public transit on Wednesday, October 19th (revised date due to air quality concerns), will receive a raffle ticket. Staff are encouraged to participate!
