Kindergarten Family Social Tomorrow
Tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. our PTA will host some Hawthorne fun for our kindergarten families on our playground field. We will have face painting, temporary tattoos, refreshments, and of course our new awesome playground. Please see our Playground Safety Rules for more information about navigating our new equipment. We have been reviewing and practicing these rules at school. We hope that you can join us for some family fun!
Early Dismissal Tuesday, November 7th
On Tuesday, November 7th, school will be dismissed at 11:55 a.m. for our Fall Institute. Lunch will not be served. Please have School Dismissal Manager updated by 10:00 a.m.
Hawthorne Holiday Food Drive, November 6th-14th
We are excited for our third annual HES Holiday Food Drive. Our students will be designing cards and assembling snack bags for Feeding Westchester. This is a great opportunity for our students to practice being responsible community helpers and apply the communication skills they are learning in writing workshop. Please see the flyer below for more information.
STEM with Ms. Aboulenein
The STEM Lab has been an exciting and busy place this month! All grade levels engaged in challenges and experiments that enrich the science curriculum being taught in the classrooms. Learning about important science concepts both in the classroom and during STEM special allows students a greater opportunity to deepen and extend their knowledge. In Kindergarten, students have been busy learning about pushes and pulls by using race cars and building mini golf courses! There is more to come in this fun science unit too! In first grade, students have been experimenting with sound by creating sound waves with rubber bands....they even had a rubber band concert! The second graders were busy learning more about how the Earth's surface changes. They built mountains and then created tornados, hurricanes, and other conditions to change their mountain. Second graders are just starting a new challenge this week, which will involve engineering earthquake-proof structures! More details to come! We didn't forget about Halloween! Students also enjoyed festive, Halloween-themed STEM challenges! We are always busy in the STEM lab!
Our Hawthorne Health Office
A big thank you to Lisa Ciliberti, RN, Liz Makar, RN, and Tracy Bounsante, Health Aide, for all they do to care for the bumps, bruises, and upset tummies in our health office. In addition to their nursing expertise, they provide a warm and caring environment for our students. We are so fortunate to have them taking care of us!

Reminders
Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use Policy
If you have not already done so, please review and complete the Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use Policy survey.
Bus Reminder
The District has a “one-stop per child” requirement for bus transportation. If your child requires pick-up or drop-off at a stop other than the one connected to his or her home address (babysitter, daycare, etc.), please complete an Alternate Stop Request Form.
Bus hopping is not permitted. For safety, security, and capacity concerns, students will not be allowed to ride a bus other than the bus to which they have been routed. Arrangements should be made for pickup at school if the normally scheduled bus stop is not appropriate on a given day.
