Update from Mrs. Wilcox (Art):
Update from Mademoiselle Lane (French):
In January, K-2 students will be practicing 1-20, reviewing names of family members and animals (they will be drawing their families and labeling them this week and listing the animals they would see on a "safari" next week) and learning how to discuss their hobbies and interests (For example, if they play soccer- "je joue au foot", if they dance "je danse", etc.).
In 3-5, students will be reviewing 1-60, learning vocabulary of objects around the house, and beginning to learn "I am" and "I have," and description vocabulary so that they can describe themselves and their interests by mid-Feb and make a self-portrait.
In 6-7, students will be reviewing 1-100, learning how to use arithmetic words, such as "plus" "moins" "par," etc. They will be learning descriptive vocabulary and describing themselves and their interests- making and presenting a self portrait next week along with starting the Carnegie Learning homework assignments and using the online textbook. The students will learn how to describe their homes using vocabulary about rooms and learning verbs to describe what one does in that specific room- all using the Carnegie program. They will be learning about French speaking countries and that specific country's relationship with France (the history, if they are independent from France and why, etc.). They will also be learning a little about the countries that border France and the languages spoken in those places (Unit 4).
Update from Mr. Rodrigues (STEM):
1 - We are finishing up a unit learning how plants and animals adapt to survive in their environment. We are then starting a unit of STEM challenges that will have us learning about building bridges and small boats.
2 - We are finishing a unit on organisms and their habitats. We will then be moving on to learning about magnets and electricity through hands-on projects.
3 - We are finishing a unit on sound waves and we are starting a unit on structures and learning what makes a structure strong.
4 - We are starting a unit on electricity. This will have us learning about electrical circuits and creating our own circuits.
5 - We are starting an engineering unit. We are learning how to build earthquake resistant structures, strong bridges, and learning about how the environment and animals influence engineers.
6 - We are currently learning about flight by building and designing rubber band powered airplanes. We are then moving on to a unit on coding using Scratch.
7 - We are starting a unit on 3D design. We will be learning how to do some basic designing in Tinkercad and then printing our designs on the 3D printer. After learning the basics, we will be working together on some larger designs.
