Charon is Pluto's moon. It is the largest of Pluto's 5 moons.Charon's diameter is 750 miles,over half of Pluto's..The Orbit period 6-7 days. Charon was named mostly after a mythological feryman. But the first 4 letters of the plantet were inspired by James' wife, Charlene.

Discovery

Charon was discovered in 1978. It was discovered by James Christy. James was looking at Pluto and saw another mass. That mass soon came to be know as another moon, Charon.

Characteristics

It has no atmostphere. It has less evaporative water and ice.The distance between Charon and Pluto is 12,200 miles. In 1985-1990, Pluto and Charon eclipsed each other daily.
