The Crayola Experience is huge- the size of a football field. Currently we do not have a limit on the number of parents that can attend with their children, with a paid ticket. We are in search of parents willing to help chaperone this trip.Chaperones need to complete a background check through the school district. Here is the link to go through the process:

We do have a discount code for chaperones- those tickets will be $10.00 and only bought online. Regular adult tickets are $21.99. We will share that link once we verify your chaperone status. Chaperones will drive or car pool from the school to the location. We would love your help. We are also looking for additional help with coolers. The coolers with wheels are very helpful.
If you have your family has bought a FAMILY PASS from the Crayola Experience, you may use it on for our field trip. Please text a picture to your child's teacher.
We do accept checks - please make the payable to Indian Creek- put in memo line 1st grade field trip
Class Party- NO TREATS WITH NUTS!!!!
The room mothers have organized the crafts and the food items. Remember no candies or treats with NUTS. NO NUTS!!!
Also please keep in mind Mrs. Freedenberg is allergic to chocolate items.
Each year we do a Valentine's Box Family Project. We will need your help! Please have your child decorate a box ( shoe box, cereal box, tissue box) to hold your child's Valentine's Day cards. The sky's the limit, so be creative! Please be sure to leave an opening at the top for the cards to be deposited, but also leave a way to open the box to get all the cards and goodies out without destroying their prized creations. We would also like to have your child's name very visible.
We will need finished boxes to be brought to school by February 13th.
You may want to shop for a box of little cards for Valentine's Day. All of our 1st grade classes have 18 children and 1 teacher. Please don't forget our Specials teacher and teachers that provide small group services. A list was sent home with the names of students in your child's class. Please use these names to pre-write your Valentine cards.
What We Are Learning This Week
Reading- Please continue to read at home for at least 20 minutes each night. Also, I-station is always a fun way for them to practice reading skills while playing fun games. We would appreciate it if you would have your child log in this weekend.
Language Arts- We will continue with our unit on writing a traditional letter. Your children will write expository and procedural. This could be work-related texts to communicate idea and information to a set audience for a reason such as a get job information, requesting information or resolving a conflict. This will lend itself to following direction and working on a set format.
Social Studies-We are going to extend your child's knowledge on the historical figures such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Sam Houston. We will learn how these individuals impacted our history. We have already started the conversations about the founding fathers on coins and bills.
Spelling/Words Their Way:
We will have a new list of sight words coming home on Monday. The words for List 20 are after, think, make, or who. We will test on FRIDAY. Please review last weeks words. Many students had problems with the words saw and their.
On Monday, your child will bring home a sheet with directions, a sheet with a group of pictures or words, and a mat. Please cut the pictures/words apart and have your child practice sorting them by the rule they are studying. Student should practice the sort Monday through Thursday. On Thursday night they will need to glue their sort down to the mat.
Math: We will be beginning a geometry unit on the study of 2D shapes. We will be sorting and classifying regular and irregular shapes based on their attributes. We will also be working on identifying 2D shapes including: circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, rhombuses and hexagons. We will also learn how to describe their attributes using geometric vocabulary.
Science: We will be beginning our unit on natural resources; including rocks, soil, and water. We will be investigating the physical characteristics of bodies of water and soil. We will be identifying natural sources of water such as streams, lakes, and oceans. We will identify water as a natural resource that can be described by size and color. We will recognize that soil is a natural resource that can be observed, compared and described by size, color and texture.
