History of Earth Day

Gaylord Nelson created Earth Day. He was very disappointed with the deforestation and that no one cared for the Earth. Nelson went to talk at 25 states, but he did not not attract politician's attention. Finally they declared Earth Day a national holiday.


Avoid over packaged food.

Buy durable goods.

Avoid disposable goods.


Reuse products as different things.

Make two sided copies.

Sell old belongings.


Buy recycled products.

Buy recyclable materials.

Use recycled paper.


It takes about 1 million years for a glass bottle to break down in a landfill.

It takes about 450 years for a plastic bottle to break down in a landfill.

In the USA, food is wasted about 3,000 pounds per second.

The energy saved by recycling a glass bottle is enough for a 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours.
