Highlights and Happenings - Centreville Jr/Sr High School
October/November Highlights 2017
Hello Centreville Jr/Sr High School Parents and Families!
The months of October and November have been filled with a LOT to make us proud. Keep reading below to find out the details.
As we head into December and then the new year, I want to wish all of our Bulldog families a joyous holiday season. As always, if you have any questions concerning school matters, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Cross Country
The girls' cross country team ended their season by qualifying for the state cross country championships. The team finished 21st at the State Finals on a muddy, windy course at Michigan International Speedway. Freshman Abby Schlabach led the team with a top 50 finish out of 250+ of the best in the state.
Justus Chupp represented the boys' team and finished 48th in his final high school cross country meet, a 13-place improvement over last year. Thanks for a great career as a Bulldog runner!
Homecoming - A Roaring Success
2017 Homecoming was filled with great school spirit from our student body. From the games assemblies, to the dress up days, to the floats and parade, this was a wonderful time to celebrate all that we are as a Bulldog community.
Football Finishes on a High Note
Seeing our seniors win their last game on their home field was pretty exciting! Thanks for the great memories.
Bulldog Volleyball
Although it didn't last as long as we had all hoped, our volleyball team had an outstanding season. The Lady 'Dogs played every game with great grit and determination, and were always exciting to watch. Several team members received special recognition for their hard work on the court. Congratulations to Sarah Lewis and Samara Schlabach for receiving Southwest 10 1st team honors, and Joanna Larsen and Carlee Odom who received 2nd team honors. Samara was also selected to the Sturgis Journal Volleyball Dream Team.
Special thanks to the seniors for six years of amazing volleyball that began in 7th grade. You will be missed!
LearnStorm Grand Prize Winners
At the beginning of the school year, our math department entered a competition through Khan Academy called LearnStorm. To participate, our teachers had to come up with an plan to motivate students to go above and beyond their assignments in math class and participate in specific growth mindset activities. Our teachers submitted the application and then set about implementing it. In the end, Centreville students completed 2,000 growth mindset activities and greatly increased their completion of math related assignments. Our students competed against hundreds of other schools involving 22,000 teachers and almost 1 million other students nationwide. The hard work was worth it when we were selected as one of three grand prize winners. The math department was awarded $5,000, and the entire student body participated in an awesome Growth Mindset rally put on by staff from Khan Academy.

STEM Learning Demonstration
The videos below show some of our junior high students demonstrating their STEM learning. They were tasked with building a target seeking robot and programming it to stop and back up when it hit its target. Pretty cool!
