Re-Entry Level 3

Hawera Intermediate School 23 April 2020

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

I would like to acknowledge your efforts and support and the efforts of our teaching and support staff and the staff of the Ministry of Education (MoE), in supporting our students and their learning at home over these unprecedented, difficult and challenging times during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

As you are likely aware, the government has announced that New Zealand currently remains at Covid-19 Alert Level 4 but will move from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3 at 11.59pm on Tuesday April 28th, 2020.

This pending change will have implications for both early childhood centres and schools once Level 3 begins.

At Level 3 this means that all children and young people who can stay at home, should stay at home and continue to access their distance learning at home.

Also at Level 3, all Year 11 – 13 students, stay at home and continue with their distance learning at home.

If your child has a health condition that means that they are at a greater risk of a severe illness or they are sick you must keep them at home.

Please be assured that the school will continue to support your child’s distance or online learning at home.

Only students who are in Years 1 - 10 and who can’t be supervised at home, can return to school and only from Wednesday April 29th, 2020.

These restrictions mean that most school children will remain at home during Level 3.

In order to ensure the safety of those children and staff who do come to school, the school will be operating with strict enforcement of health and safety measures. This will require the complete co-operation of every student.

The government has indicated that these Level 3 restrictions for schools will be in place for a further two weeks from Wednesday April 29th, 2020, after which time they will be reviewed.

The school appreciates your co-operation in this matter and we urge you to reinforce with your children the need to follow all guidelines to help us to eliminate Covid-19. This includes washing their hands for at least 20 seconds and often; sneezing or coughing into the elbow; and maintaining social distancing from others.

The school will be in contact with you via email, text or phone or facebook in the next few days to ask you questions to help with the planning needs of the school to prepare for the Covid-19 Level 3 restrictions that will be effective for schools from Wednesday April 29th, 2020.

Stay home, stay safe, be kind and kind regards.

Nga mihi,

Kevin Palmer, LSM/Commissioner

Information for Students and their Parents

Students should stay home if they are able.

If your child needs to attend school please let us know. We will then contact you prior to Wednesday 29 April to let you know what bubble your child will be in. They will need to follow the protocols outlined for their bubble. Only students that have let us know they will be attending school should arrive at school on Wednesday 29 April. This is so that we can prepare thoroughly for the students attending.

Siblings will be placed in the same bubble.

Students must stick to their bubble and follow school protocols, failure to do so will mean staff will need to get students collected by parents or caregivers.

We will be operating three bubbles at school. One in Rm 8, one in Rm 6 and one in Rm 4. These bubbles will not interact with each other.
