SPRING PICTURE DAY!
Notes from our Nurse, Mrs. Ferron
We are well into the cold and Flu season. We have had some cases of the Influenza (Flu) and strep throat so far but we're trying very hard to limit the spread of all communicable diseases. With families traveling over Spring break and the flu season going into April please look at the following to keep your child and our entire school community healthy:
Please remind your children to be diligent with Hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes with the elbow/sleeve, not touching the nose/mouth/eyes, etc. We do our best here at school to reinforce that practice but it is important to teach it at home as well. Please, also refrain from sending children to school with a fever, excessive cough or runny nose. Our policy states to keep home for at least 24 hours after fever free. However, if your child was diagnosed with the Flu (Influenza) they may be contagious for up to 7-10 days from diagnosis. It would be best to keep them home for at least 5 more days from the diagnosis to allow complete recovery. Most students who return to school too soon not only risk other but they usually don't feel well and it may affect their learning.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF SPRING OPTIONAL TESTING FOR IDENTIFICATION OF GIFTED STUDENTS
Although your child may or may not have taken the CogAT in December, you may request that your child be tested on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT). If you wish to have your child participate in this round of testing, all requests must be made through the below online link by March 15, 2019. In order to decrease disruption to your child's instruction, this testing opportunity will take place prior to the start of the school day. We have scheduled this 45-50 minute testing session to be administered from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Symmes.
Please note it is the parents' responsibility to provide transportation the morning of testing to your child’s building. Additionally, know that Sycamore cannot use kindergarten or first grade scores for gifted placement. Sign up at this link:
Remember if you are SPRING cleaning over break to bring your clothing to our bin! the contest ends March 31!!

Sycamore Community Schools is seeking Adult Volunteers for April 22nd - Professional Development Day
The certified staff of Sycamore Community Schools will be participating in a professional learning activity called “Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE)” led by facilitators from Think Tank Inc. on April 22nd. The purpose of the activity is to engage our staff in authentic, empathy-building experiences to better understand the daily struggles some of our families may experience as a result of economic fatigue.
Each session will include 120 staff participants. We are in need of 20 volunteers (COPE Resource Leaders) for each session to “role play” various community and business members. As a COPE Resource Leader, you will be given your role by the COPE facilitator during training. Training will be provided in the first hour of the volunteer shift. The time commitment will be approximately 3-1/2 hours. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide babysitting services on this day, therefore volunteers are asked not to bring their children along.
