BAS WEEKLY UPDATE
January 7, 2022
Good afternoon BAS Community,
Thank you for your partnership during this remote week of learning. We look forward to seeing the students back for in-person instruction on Monday. If you borrowed a computer earlier this week, we ask that you bring the computer and charger back in on Monday so teachers and students have the Chromebooks for the classrooms.
Please take a moment to read this week's blast as it has important updates, reminders, and dates to remember.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Enjoy!
Lourdes Murphy
UPDATED Covid 19 Reporting Form
Here is the new form to report positive Covid-19 cases and close contacts. This revised form will streamline the process for you, as well as the nurses. Once the form is submitted, you will receive an email from the nurses providing instructions. Do not send your child into school while you await instructions from the nursing staff. The greatest assistance you can provide is to keep your child home when they are sick.
Lunch and Recess
Recess: Students will continue to go outside for recess even when it is cold. Please make sure to dress students for the cold weather as we want to get them outside as much as possible. If it is necessary to remain inside, students will have indoor recess in the classroom. The BAS PTA purchased multiple items for children to use during this time while maintaining an appropriate distance.
Before and After School Safety Protocols Reminder
It is important to remember to practice physical distancing and mask protocols on school grounds for the safety of all prior to the start of the school day as well as after school on the playground.
BAS School Nurse
Mrs. Lazo will be out of the office through February 2022 and will have limited access to her email. During this time, we are in good hands with School Nurse, Ms. Susana Pereira. Please contact Ms. Pereira with any BAS healthcare needs. Her email address and phone number are included below:

Optional Free Testing for CPSD Students
Free Testing for CPSD students - optional - parental / guardian consent required on Friday, January 7 from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm, and Saturday, January 8, from 9:00 am - 10:30 am. Testing will take place at Lincoln School.
Prior to the break, our region turned red, signaling a very high transmission rate according to the NJDOH Covid Activity Level Index (CALI) report. In addition to redoubling our efforts in implementing all of our protocols and procedures, we have also arranged for testing for all students whose parents / guardians would like to have their children tested. The testing, which consists of a non-invasive PCR spit test, will be provided by an outside company, Mirimus, and parents/guardians must complete this consent, prior to arrival, for their child to be tested.
Please note that we are working on expanding this program so that it takes place weekly.

REMINDERS
Instruction for Students on Quarantine
Given the number of students who are currently quarantined, it makes sense to shift from the home instruction model to a “live streaming” model for those who are quarantined in grades 3 through 12. This new model will be in place for the month of January and then the District will reassess moving forward. Please understand that this allows students who are quarantining to listen in on the class. This model does not include two-way communication. Your child is always welcome to follow up with the teacher at a later time and their teacher will do everything possible to assist your child upon their return.
Grades Pre-K through 2 will continue with the home instruction model when an individual is quarantined. Principals will reach out with more information.
TRAVEL
While there is no statewide travel advisory or mandate in place at this time, it is strongly recommended that individuals follow the CDC COVID-19 travel recommendations. The CDC recommends that travel be delayed for those who are not fully vaccinated. If travel cannot be delayed, domestic and international travelers who are not fully vaccinated should get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel, even if they test negative. If testing is not completed post-travel, individuals should self-quarantine for 10 days. International travelers who are fully vaccinated should also get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel, self-monitor for symptoms, and isolate and get tested if symptoms develop. For those traveling to/from New Jersey, domestic travel is defined as lasting 24 hours or longer to states or U.S. territories other than those connected to New Jersey, such as Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware.
IMPORTANT MASK REMINDER
Please remember to send in multiple masks with your child. The masks can break or become wet, especially after lunch/recess. We want to make sure that everyone is comfortable as we ensure adherence to the mask mandate.
Also, please remind your children how to properly wear their mask. It is important that the mask covers the child's nose and mouth. Ill-fitting masks can be more uncomfortable for the child and lead to quarantine if there is a positive case of Covid-19 in the classroom.
Lastly, masks are optional when students are outside. Please let your child know if you would like him/her to take off their mask while outside.
Thank you for your support!
