What is the American Dream?
The American Dream is, to many people, achieving success in their lifetime. Whether it be through having equal rights or having a good job, people are finding their American dream. America is the country of opportunity to raise families, get good paying jobs, have go-given freedoms, and overall lead a comfortable life doing what they want.

Throughout the novel, Jay Gatsby, millionaire, runs after the woman he loves, Daisy, to spend the rest of his life with. Although Gatsby has worked his life to be wealthy and can live to his life's extent, his American Dream isn't fulfilled without his love by his side.
The Crucible
In this play, young girl, Abigail Williams, has gotten her friends to begin accusing innocent people from their home of Salem to performing witchcraft. Seeing the potential, some townspeople join in the confusion so as they may take land or property from their neighbors. Taking land may be part of their plan to achieve their own American Dream.
The Scarlet Letter
Hester, talented seamstress, has had a baby from her affair while her husband was gone. Strung down by a scarlet A she is forced to wear, Hester raises her daughter, Pearl, as best as she can. Hester wants her daughter to grow up and achieve the American Dream that she herself couldn't get.

Goodman Brown set out on a night's journey through the woods, despite his wife's pleading, and encounters the event of his lifetime. Evil spirits have caused him to reevaluate what he once believed about his neighbors and trusted confidants. Any trace of his American Dream has vanished once he wakes up from that night.

A poor family living in a small apartment have gotten a check for $10,000 after the passing of their father. Because of the money, Mama, Walter, and Beneatha argue about how the money will be spent to satisfy their own American Dreams until finally coming to an agreement.
Death of a Salesman
Willy Loman has worked 34 years as a traveling salesman and now as a 60 year old, he is beginning to grow tired and weak. With his young ambitions aside, Willy has given up trying to achieve his American Dream and his hope of his sons fulfilling the dream as well.
