THANK YOU!
Thank You!
Thank you to the Gunter Chamber of Commerce for starting our new semester off with a great breakfast for the faculty on January 3rd. It warmed our hearts, filled our bellies, and helped us ease back into "school life" after resting over the holidays.
The GISD Administration team did it again! They made their rounds to each campus with a "Treat Yourself" Chili Bar. The weather outside was frightful, and the chili was so delightful ;) Thank you from your faculty and staff!
Thank you to the Gunter Elementary PTO for organizing a "supply restock" for the classrooms. They asked what was needed, teachers put in a request, and supplies were delivered!
Thank you to Gunter Elementary PTO and Texas Roadhouse for teaming up to treat the elementary faculty to a delicious lunch!
Thank you to the Gunter Middle School PTO for organizing and serving a delicious lunch spread on the 24th! Everything was outstanding!

January was School Board Recognition Month and Gunter ISD celebrated its trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students.
The theme of this year’s School Board Recognition Month is Forward, Together, which highlights the collaboration among school leadership, teachers, and parents on behalf of students. Recognizing the efforts of our volunteer school board is so important because of all the hard work trustees put in to making our district a success, and Gunter ISD has the absolute best people representing our district.
The board was honored by the teachers, students, and administration at the regularly scheduled January meeting. They were showered with homemade cards, art work designed by students, floral arrangements created by students, gift cards, coolers, t-shirts, snacks, wooden art and so much more!
Thank you, GISD Board, for everything you do! You're simply, "The Best!"

Readers Are Champions!
Reading is so important in life, and our little Tigers are soaking up so many stories through the Readers are Champions program. For the 2nd 9 weeks, we had 138 students in Pre K - 4th grade participate, they read a total of 99,464 hours! Way to go READERS!
The top readers, pictured with Principal Keller, got to eat lunch with her!
Congratulations to the following students who were the top readers from their class level:
Pre K - Olivia Davis
Kindergarten - Paxton Howard
1st Grade - Bailey Brotherton
2nd Grade - Brock Taylor

Gunter 3rd Grade is Outta This World!
Our 3rd grade teachers and students are "Outta This World" AWESOME! After learning all about the solar system, the 3rd graders put their knowledge to use by creating a model of the solar system. During the unit they also built Lunar Landers as a STEM challenge.Check out some of the projects that were turned in. These kiddos worked hard and got the job done!

The Study of Erosion
5th grade scientists in Mrs. Bon's science lab learned about landforms and how they are created. With the help of a new manipulative purchased with money from a GIFT Grant, the students were able to conduct an experiment to actually see erosion take place. In the lab, they watched vocabulary words come to life as they poured water through a "rain maker" and watched as it moved and deposited sediments in areas where the force of the water became too low to push it any further.
Thank you, Gunter GIFT, for helping to make science come to life.
Figurative Language
Mrs. Greene's students spent some time learning about figurative language. Figurative language refers to words or phrases that are meaningful, but not literally true, such as a simile, metaphor, oxymoron, and hyperbole. The students debated with each other and chose answers while working with figurative language. Sounds like a fun lesson!
Snow place like the library!
Mrs. Loewen’s class always looks forward to their weekly trip to the GMS Library. Mrs. Hoel reads to the class and has a fun activity for the students to do. On a recent visit the class made snow! The process was interesting to watch and the snow was fun to explore.
Grayson County Spelling Bee
We will be sending good vibes to Hailey Blanks as she travels to Van Alstyne to compete in the Grayson County Spelling Bee at Grayson College on February 7th. Runner Up, Corbin Waligura will attend the event with Mrs. Greene to show support for Hailey.
January GMS Students of the Month
5th Grade - Jacob Roten
Jacob plays basketball and loves to read and listen to Christian music. His favorite subject is Social Studies. When asked about his future ambition, he will tell you he is just happy being a 5th grader at the moment. There is plenty of time to think about your future... enjoy being a kid right now!
6th Grade - Presley Balak
Presley is a member of a competitive cheer squad. When she's not cheering, she enjoys finding new things to watch on Netflix or listening to Cody Johnson songs. Her favorite subject is science. In the future, we may see Miss Presley Balak competing to become Miss America.
7th Grade - Shane Waite
Shane plays football and likes to fish/hunt. His favorite subject is Yearbook. When Shane is not on the field, on the lake or out in the wide open spaces, you might find him listening to his favorite band, Turnpike Troubadours. In the future, Shane would like to become a Fishing Boat Captain.
8th Grade - Atalaya Fenner
Atalaya lives to cheer! She is on the Gunter Middle School cheer squad as well as a competitive team. She chooses to unwind from her busy schedule by reading and doing crafts, while listening to John Pardi. Atalaya says she would like to be a "Rebel Feature" in the future.
Cycle 2 - GMS Rock Stars
The 2022-2023 theme for Gunter Middle School is GMS Rocks which makes sense because we have a “rock-star” staff and student body. Now that we've sailed through the 2nd 9 weeks, it's time to sing some praises!

Graduating college before graduating high school? Yes, it happened right here!
Please join GHS in celebrating Jose Chavez! Jose has achieved a rare milestone. He is officially a Grayson College graduate before being a high school graduate. When Jose walks across the stage to receive his Gunter High School diploma in May he will be walking into a welding career with his college level industry certifications in hand as well. Jose began taking welding courses at the Grayson College campus in Van Alstyne when he was a GHS Junior as part of the Dual Credit Welding Program. His hard work and willingness to stick with the program have allowed him to reach a goal that most students do not achieve until after their high school graduation. Please congratulate Jose when you see him around town and give him a shout if you are looking for a certified welder.
Also, a special thanks to Grayson College for providing opportunities to GHS students that result in industry certifications that translate into real world job offers. More information about Grayson College programs can be found here - https://www.grayson.edu/pathways/index.html

The public was able to enjoy the beautiful music by 4 different bands: Middle School Concert Band, Middle School Symphonic Band, High School Concert Band, High School Symphonic Band.
Congratulations to the following musicians for achieving this level of success:

We are so excited to meet with you and discuss your child's future in the Gunter Tiger Band Program! Please select a time slot by clicking on the link above. Put the student's name in the time slot, and parent/guardian name in the comment section provided.
Anticipate your total time at school to be 30 minutes to 1 hour to allow for meeting time with a director, as well as time to discuss supply needs.
We can't wait to meet you!
Props!
Wait, it's not real! The theatre tech students are learning about making props, and were tasked to create a bacon cheeseburger using only toilet paper, water, and paint. The students worked hard on their creations and then presented them to the class who gave constructive criticism and stated whether it would pass the "20 foot test".
The students did a great job! The winner of the competition is Kat Clemens, who won a real cheeseburger as a prize! (*The one pictured is her creation)
The Yellow Wallpaper - Coming to a Stage Near You!
One-Act Play season is in full swing! Rehearsals began at the beginning of the semester and we took the show on the road for the first time the weekend of January 27th in Red Oak to a clinic where we were critiqued by a UIL judge. (It’s like a practice competition.)
On January 24th, the students had tea at the beautiful Beatitudes Cafe in Lake Dallas. Alicia was an incredible host and opened the cafe an hour early for us to have a private tea with the author of our play, Shanna Klutts. Unfortunately, the weather kept Ms. Klutts from joining us in person but we still had a very informative "digital" discussion about the play and all left with a deeper connection to the story. BIG thanks and lots of love to Dr. Rue for arranging this for the OAP cast and crew.
The rest of the afternoon was spent at Rose Costumes in Denton searching for the perfect costumes to help bring our story to life. Check out the pictures below! We can’t wait to share “The Yellow Wallpaper” with the Gunter community and wishing all the broken legs to our cast and crew this weekend!
Thank you, Mr. Williams, for driving the group around on the 24th. You are definitely our "cup of tea"
Tiger Garden and Floral Projects - A Labor of Love!
Students in Mrs. Osburn's classes were finally able to harvest their carrot crop! They look great!
The floral class has also been busy creating arrangements for a variety of events. Take a look at the flowers created for the Celina Chamber of Commerce. (below)

Creed Speaking Contest
On November 3rd, Karlee Beavers competed in Greenhand Creed Speaking at the Tarleton State University LDE Invitational and placed 2nd. She received her banner and is excited to show it off with Ag teacher, Mr. Reding. Creed Speaking is comprised of memorizing and presenting the five paragraphs of the FFA Creed and answering questions in front of several judges. Great job, Karlee! We are proud to call you a Gunter Tiger!
Tractor Tech Team Headed to STATE!
Congratulations to Brooks, Brodee, & Brayden for placing 1st in the Area Tractor Tech Competition and qualifying for State in Houston! They will compete in March. Way to go Gunter FFA!

Graduation Date Change - Mark your calendar!
Graduation is a special time for our seniors, and we can’t think of a more special place to have the graduation than our own Tiger Field. To make that happen, we have decided to change the 2023 Graduation date to Thursday, May 25th at 8:00 PM. Making this change gives us the opportunity to make alternative plans in case the weather does not cooperate.
Our new plan looks like this:
- Graduation - Thursday, May 25th | 8:00 PM
- In the event of inclement weather on Thursday, Graduation will be held on Friday, May 26th at 9:00 AM
- If bad weather persists throughout both days, Graduation will be moved into the GHS Event Center (Main Gymnasium) and held Friday morning at 10:00 AM. If we have to move the ceremony inside, seating will be limited. Each graduate will be given 10 tickets for family/friends.
We are looking forward to making this event as special as we can for the Class of 2023.
