Summer Improvement Projects
GJPS Gearing Up for a Busy Summer
While our students are preparing for the fast-approaching summer break, our operations team is gearing up for a busy summer of improvement projects around Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools. Most of the work we will be doing this summer is funded from our permanent improvement fund.
Permanent improvement dollars are used for maintenance and repair of school property, and, in some circumstances, for renovation and building projects. In November 2014, the voters of Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools passed a 2.16 mill permanent improvement levy to fund building repairs across the District.
Some of our biggest projects this summer are a series of secured entries and office improvements at Goshen Lane, Royal Manor, Jefferson, Chapelfield and Middle School West. These improvements will increase safety and allow our office staff a second opportunity to vet all visitors before they enter the hallways of those schools.
Also at Chapelfield and Royal Manor, you will see crews at work this summer paving the bus loops and parking lots, including the shared parking lot between Chapelfield and Middle School West. Other exterior improvements include playground work at High Point and Blacklick, as well as the installation of wheelchair swings at Goshen Lane, High Point and Chapelfield.
Our permanent improvement funds will also be used for a sound system and aid in the installation of permanent lighting at the Blacklick Athletic Complex.
This summer, we will also be adding new buses to the District’s fleet.
Inside of our buildings District-wide, we will be using more than $1.3 million that we were awarded in grant money to boost our surveillance, access control and two-way radio network.

For every dollar raised, a tree will be planted in areas affected by forest fires.
