Egypt is a big country- it is bigger than Texas and Mexico combined. Most of it is desert. Egypt people crowd into 4% of the land which is an area twice the size of Maryland. The lifeline of Egypt is the Nile River, which supplies 85% of the country's water.
Facts About Egypt's Deserts
East of the Nile river spreads the eastern desert also know as the Arabian desert. West of the Nile is the much larger Libyan desert, which covers about two-thirds of the country. Dotting both deserts are oases. An oasis is a fertile or green area in a desert. Plants grow here, giving these spots lush green growth in the midst of the hot sand.
