Panther families,
I hope you all enjoyed food, family, friends and rest over your Thanksgiving holiday! It was a much- needed time to recharge in the Harp-household. My kids had been sharing flu germs back and forth, and gave me a few as well. ;) So, we used the week to watch movies, cuddle under blankets and enjoy some mellow time at home.
Our 5th and 6th grade classes are moving in to their new portable, temporary buildings this week, so that we can begin demolition and construction of our new building over Winter Break! Our wonderful teachers have worked hard to make even these temporary spaces a warm, welcoming space for learning. Feel free to come check it out!
It you know anyone with an incoming TK or Kinder student interested in enrolling at Penngrove next school year, please pass on the information about our TK/K info night tomorrow in room 3 at 6pm. This is for TK/K families only. Tours for other grades will be announced soon.
Please member to respect our neighbors by not blocking their driveways. We've had a few instances of neighbors being blocked and unable to get to work.
PLEASE do the question of the week with your students! (See below) Reading their answers makes my heart happy!
Stay awkward, brave and kind!
4th-6th Grade families!
PCS and Penngrove Elementary are launching an anonymous reporting app called StopIt. This app is for student use only to make reports about bullying, mental health needs and issues concerning student safety. Students have been introduced to the app and are ready to use it as needed. Mrs. Harp is the only person who sees reports, and it is 100% anonymous to help students feel safe and confident when reporting. Click here for more information. (And click here for the student video)
Our next Walking School Bus will be on Wednesday, December 21st
Get ready for the BOOK FAIR!
The Book Fair is returning Tuesday December 6th
Students will have plenty of opportunities to shop the selection between the 6th and 9th of December. Remember each student going home with a free book from our fair last year?? Our generous PTA and the library program are working together to make it happen again!
Every student will pick a book of their choice from a set selection the week of the fair.
The Book Fair will be open each day at lunch time, as well as after school on Wednesday and
during a Family Fun Night on Friday December 9th
Mrs. M needs volunteers to help things run smoothly- please click here to sign up.
Hope you all enjoy reading something new!!

Just a one hour commitment!
Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
The Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports focus for this week is for students to follow the general expectations in all areas at school. One of our goals as a PBIS team, is to focus on reducing the number of physical aggression incidents we are having. It would greatly help if you had a conversation with your student each morning to remind them of the expectation to use a safe body, kind words, and get help from an adult when needed.
Recess Volunteers Needed for Football
As you may know, 4th, 5th & 6th graders have enjoyed playing football during recess this year, but it has not gone as smoothly as we would hope. We are looking for volunteers to come in to support our students in doing things they enjoy on their breaks from learning- we want football to be fun, but we need to ensure everyone's safety. Please click here if you are able to share some time & "ref" recess football. The link includes the schedule & expectations for students and volunteers.
Everyone is welcome to help out!

Hello friends! We are raking lots of leaves up in the garden. We have been studying the Tom Turkey, learning how to use a compass and talking about the directions using a Navajo folk tale about the turkey. Fourth graders made a salad from our first grow tower which is growing so well as well as veggies from the garden. It is incredible to watch a whole Fourth grade class work together to create a healthy snack and community feeling!
Garden will be held through the winter months. I will do my best to communicate with volunteers the night before if we are meeting in garden or at your students classroom. Make sure I have your cell number for communications please. And as always THANK YOU to the parent volunteers who make our Garden program super awesome.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the families who included Garden in teacher appreciation week your cards, supplies, flowers and support warmed my heart. We are blessed to be a part of such a generous and caring community!
Look out for the three new grow towers coming to campus as well as a Plant Sale being held by 6th graders to make funds for a pond upgrade. Come up to garden and have your student show you around anytime!
With gratitude,
Ms. Ortiz
