Newsletter 2!
Families of LUA students, welcome to our fourth week of school and our second LUA UPdate of the year. It has been brought to our attention that some families have not been receiving these UPdates. We hope this newsletter finds it's way safely to your inbox. If you did not receive the first UPdate sent the second week of school, please email Leslie Sieleni, our office manager, Sieleni@levelupacademy.org. She would be happy to send you a copy so you can get caught up.
Once a month LUA UPdates!
Starting this year, all Level Up Academy UPdates will be sent once a month. Each classroom teacher will be sending weekly updates specific to their classroom. Please be looking for your next LUA UPdate in the beginning of October! Newsletters will only be sent via email, not in paper form as was the case last year.
The one mile run is happening tomorrow!
Mr. Jones is asking that all students in grades 3-7 wear gym shoes and comfy clothes to school tomorrow. Please also consider sending a water bottle with your student as well. All students in grades 3-7 will be running the mile in our backyard. Rest up, it's going to be a fun run!! Remember, in keeping with a growth mindset, if your child says, "But I can't run the mile!" You can help them change their thought pattern by suggesting, "You can't run the mile, YET!" Thanks in advance for your encouragement.
weCODE!
weCODE is our new positive behavior and character curriculum at LUA. CODE stands for our code of conduct and positive expectations for all students and staff. C = Cooperation O = Ownership D = Do your best and E = Everyone Matters! This month we are focusing on cooperation. When we catch students cooperating, they will receive tickets for a chance for their name to be drawn on Friday (See the coupon store details in the next column for more information on what happens when their name is drawn). Even if their name isn't drawn on Friday, it will be counted toward our whole-school goals for an all-school celebration!
Thank you!
Thank you for attending our Town Hall Meeting and Classroom Presentation Night last night! We know evening events at school aren't always easy to attend, so we will always catch you up with information you may have missed. Please look for a PDF of Ms. Dandelet's Town Hall Presentation from last night. It will give you an idea of what was shared. If you have questions after seeing the presentation, you may e-mail her dandelet@levelupacademy.org.
Coupon Store this Friday!
We give experiences, not trinkets for great behavior at LUA! When students' names are drawn from the ticket bucket each Friday, they will be able to shop at our coupon store. Our coupon store allows them to choose an experience they would like to have at LUA. Some examples are "Use Ms. Dandelet's chair for a day!" and "Be a lunchroom helper!" Students are also thinking up their own coupon ideas that we will add to the store.
The Power of YET is a lesson every student at LUA has heard. Please ask your child to tell you about YET in their own words. Every other Friday, Ms. Dandelet teaches lessons to each class on the Power of Yet and developing a growth mindset. This week we taught the younger classrooms that "In this school, it's ok to make mistakes." In the upper classrooms we taught students that "Failure is another word for growing." Each of the phrases reinforce the power of YET, and the fact that trying is better than refusing to take a chance. Below is a video on growth mindset that was shared with grades 3 through 7!
