Leaving Campus at Unauthorized Times
Throughout this school year, there has been what seems to be a constant struggle with students skipping or getting out to go off campus during flex and lunches. We have worked with our staff to control this, but in recent days, it has gotten worse and worse. Burleson campuses have always been closed campuses and they still are. Kids should not be leaving during lunch.
We have students getting into accidents coming and going from the parking lots. We have had an allegation of a student rushing off campus during lunch and running another motorist off the road.
When students have been returning, we are seeing dozens and sometimes hundreds of pieces of trash thrown about the parking lot. Some students go beyond this and have started throwing their trash in the sewer openings and creating issues within that system. Worse yet, some of the students are now coming back with food and trash and simply throwing it or leaving it on the floors around the campus. This is something that is not appropriate for what this campus, the students and the staff, are all about.
The skipping for flex and lunches is emboldening many students to continue to skip other classes in addition to trying to leave during lunches.
Some further changes will be taking place effective today. If students wish to take advantage and utilize food delivery services such as DoorDash or UberEats, etc.,they can. They may have the food dropped in the front entry way. Tables will be set up in the front entry way for the food delivery. Students should not be going outside to retrieve food. Food deliveries are allowed for lunch periods only (11:20-2:30). All other food deliveries will be denied.
We will be shifting some staff assignments and stations to ensure at flex and lunches, there will be an administrator at the exits to ensure students remain in the building during those periods. Only students being signed out or utilizing transport for classes to BHS should be leaving. Staff will be checking Skyward schedules to determine whether a student should be leaving. Students trying to skip or circumvent the administration could be subject to potential discipline.
I know some will see this as an inconvenience, but the ability to use the delivery services will more than assist each of you to get any food.
Dismissal Procedures
If you as a parent are coming to school to sign our your student in person, you just need to come to the front desk to sign your student out of school. If you are wishing to sign your student out to leave unaccompanied, a note provided by the parent must be submitted to the main office no later than two hours prior to the student’s need to leave campus. This can be in the form of a written note or an email, but not a phone call. Please note, that it must be a parent/guardian that is signing a student out. This will enable us to document in writing for our processes.
Please understand that for state auditing procedures, a blanket notification to release a student every day or an extended period of time cannot be accepted. Notification for release of a student must be sent for any or each day that a student needs to be released for any reason in order to document appropriately.

EOC Testing at CHS
Spring STAAR/EOC testing is fast approaching! Testing dates are listed below. It is extremely important that students are on-time at 8:45 and bring a charged chromebook. For the April tests, we will be taking a testing break and eating in the testing rooms, so please keep in mind that students will need to order a lunch from the cafeteria that morning or bring one from home at the beginning of the day; we will not be able to accept deliveries in the front for testing students.

Important Information about House Bill 4545 Tutorials
In the 2021 Legislative Session, House Bill 4545 was passed which required all students in third grade through high school to have thirty hours of tutoring for each STAAR/ EOC test not passed. BISD responded by making adjustments to the schedule to include time within the school day for tutoring. The Texas Education Agency has provided a list of approved vendors as curriculum providers to work with districts to deliver high-impact tutoring. In the next week, BISD will implement this high-impact tutoring with students in grade six through twelve. Learn more about FEV Tutor and the BISD tutoring program here and at fevtutor.com.
