ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
We are not quite sure how it is already the last day of May! As our teaching teams are also working on placement and transition plans for students moving to new loops and grades for the 2019-2020 school year, teachers and students are also still working at full steam in their classroom and celebrating the growth and accomplishments made throughout the year. Last week was certainly a busy week of celebrating progress as our middle-level chorus and band groups and our K-4 students delivered amazing musical performances! K-4 students also shared their learning with special friends and family members on Grandfriends Day. A sampling of some of the great learning events that have happened recently or are coming up include:
CCS 3rd graders are taking on the challenge of trapping mosquito larva and learning what weather factors have the greatest influence on their lifestyle - all part of their Mission Mosquito project. This week they Skyped with two epidemiologists to learn more about the worldwide impact of Zika Virus. Their data will also be used by NASA to verify the accuracy of their satellite-based observations.
CCS students from grades 5-8 who participate in our CY mentoring program hiked Mt. Philo yesterday with their mentors for their end of year celebration!
CVU Principal Adam Bunting came to CCS to speak with our 8th-grade students on Wednesday.
CCS K-2 students have been learning about Impressionism in art with Ms. Joy creating variations on Monet's Bridge Over a Pond of Lillies. Enjoy the full collection in the gym and library hallways - stop by and you'll certainly be impressed by our young masters!
First graders are busy growing plants in Grow Labs and measuring shadows, now that we have sunshine on a regular basis!
PE classes and recess groups are enjoying the new Gaga Ball pit, generously constructed by CCS staff members Mike DiNicola, Zach Pichette, Tim Holcomb and Doug Miller!
Our administrative team is also working on transition plans within our staffing for next year. It is bittersweet to announce that some of our CCS faculty and staff will be moving on to new personal and professional endeavors:
Two members of our longtime CCS family - classroom teacher Ena Jesset and paraeducator Gerry Leckerling are retiring at the end of this school year.
School counselor Vicki Nelson will be moving on from CCS, but staying within CVSD, splitting her time between school counseling at Hinesburg Community School and district-wide work for CVSD.
School counselor Kathy Batty will be taking a leave of absence for the 2018-2019 school year.
Special Educator Kate Woods will be transferring to Hinesburg Community School.
Speech Language Pathologist Janelle Moynihan will be sharing time across CVU and CVSD.
Nihad Cekovic, CCS K-2 PE teacher, will be moving on to explore different opportunities.
School Nurse Katie Duprat will be returning to nursing work within a hospital setting.
This year’s Literacy Coach and Specialist, long-term substitute Stephanie Murray, will be moving on to a Special Educator position within Chittenden County next year.
Joy Danila, long-term art substitute is also pursuing new endeavors outside of CCS next year.
Words do not express our sincere gratitude and admiration for the amazing contributions of all of these educators. Their work has made CCS a wonderful place for students and staff on a daily basis!
We are excited to announce the addition of the following s faculty and staff members to our CCS community:
Kelly Bouteiller will be returning to CCS after a leave of absence. Kelly is going to be our Literacy Coach and Specialist.
Betsy Lloyd will be our full-time school counselor for the 2019-2020 school year, coming to us from Browns River Middle School.
Nick Elderton will be joining us as a 60% PE and Health Educator, coming to us from St. Francis Xavier School.
Lisa Bresler will be our new Art teacher, transferring from Shelburne Community School.
Lizzy Healy will be joining CCS as a Special Educator.
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
