From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents,
This week, our second graders participated in the much-anticipated "Bike Safety Training" on our blacktop. It was wonderful watching our younger students practice bike and scooter safety skills on a beautiful day. The course was run by the Wilmette Park District and included training on how to stay safe and deal with potential hazards. The Wilmette Police also helped to reinforce safety points. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who assisted the children as well. Bike Safety Training is a wonderful community effort each year to keep all of our children safe.
As we begin the long weekend, I hope you find time to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day with your family. As parents, this is your opportunity to talk to your children about those who paid the highest price for the opportunities and freedoms we enjoy everyday as Americans. It's also a time when we thank those who continue to serve today and appreciate the sacrifices they are making. Of course, this is also simply a time to spend with friends and family. I hope everyone can relax and enjoy some time off during this busy spring season.
Warmly,
- Becky

Central School's Activity Day
Activity Day is rapidly approaching. This year's event will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018. Our rain date is Monday, June 11, 2018. We are making some changes to our Activity Day this year. We will have our regular station rotation set-up as usual in the morning and new mixed grade level activities in the afternoon. In order to make this day a success, we will need volunteers for the morning session only. P.M. Kindergarten is the only exception to this. We will need some P.M. Kindergarten volunteers for the afternoon.
More information is available on the Sign-Up Genius. Looking forward to a fantastic Activity Day!
School Playground Updates
With the fort coming down, the PTA decided to go in a new direction and installed a Gaga Ball Pit at Central School last week. The Gaga Ball Pit is similar to the one currently installed at Romona School. This new structure is a wonderful addition to the playground and we are very thankful to PE teacher, Ms Peth, and the PTA for their hard work and fundraising efforts to acquire this new piece of equipment. The children are really enjoying it!

From the Nurse's Office
Call Central School "Safe Phone" For Absences: 847-512-6150
Please call the "SAFE" (absence) phone to report absences even if you let the classroom teacher know, because some teachers don't see the email/voicemail until later in the day. Teachers assume you are calling the office. It's important that the school nurse is directly aware of any absences otherwise, your son/daughter may be considered "missing." The school nurse keeps track of all school absences in the building. For safety reasons, we want to make sure all of our students are accounted for and safe.
