Newsletter Week 6 Term 4

Rotherham School 23rd November 2022

Kia ora koutou,

What an amazing experience we had with the Antarctic Virtual Experience recently. It was fascinating to learn about Sir Edmund Hillary and then go inside his hut using the virtual goggles. It truly felt like you were in there and we got to click on things inside the hut and it became interactive. The Senior Room have enjoyed using the iPads on the interactive journals as well. Great technology involved!

Staff are busy at the moment testing and updating end of year milestones in Hero. It is rewarding to see the progress the students have made throughout the year and to acknowledge the effort that our wonderful teaching staff put into meeting the needs of all the students. We are very fortunate that we have outside specialist teachers come into help us when needed including Alison Nimmo our Reading Recovery teacher, Karen Nicholls Learning Support Coordinator, Trudy Miles Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour, Jenni McQuillan Mana Ake and Kathy Bendre Speech and Language Therapist.

Now that the weather is getting warmer it is great that we can go and use our fantastic community pool and thank you to all the volunteers who help out to enable us to use it. Please remember that the children need to bring their togs and towels every day to school even if the weather is not warm as it can change during the day. Swimming is part of our Health and Physical Education Curriculum and everyone is expected to be swimming unless they are unwell and a parent has notified us. For the Junior Room there is the expectation that they can independently undress and dress themselves as these are skills they need to be able to do when they start school.

The Junior Room are looking forward to going on their trip to Hanmer next Thursday and a massive thank you to all the parents who are going and to the Home and School for funding the students to go to the animal park and the pools.

Home and School News

Hi everyone,

On Monday we had our final home and school meeting for 2022!!!

We have had a great fundraising effort this year with $15,000 made for our home and school account plus the corn and rogaine contributions that go into our board account.

A big thank you to everyone that has given their time, effort and donations towards all of these fundraising events, it's because of this help that we have been able to make these a success.

Next year we will be cutting out our smaller fundraisers and putting all our focus on the main events: corn, rogaine and pig hunt and it will be expected that everyone helps towards these. This will crack on early in term 1, 2023 as we prepare for our mighty corn sales where I will be wrangling everyone into jobs, so you've been warned!

Lastly for 2022 we have our family fun day on the last day of term. After prize giving on the 15th December we will be having a BBQ lunch and we have organised a bouncy castle and an appearance by a 'Funky Santa' topped off with an afternoon at the pool if the weather allows. Looking forward to seeing everyone's beautiful families there.

Lastly we are so happy to see so many fab new wee ones and their families join our school this year, we hope that everyone is off to a great start and don't forget there is a lot of parent support in our school community so please reach out if you need any information or help with anything. We are a friendly bunch and strive to make our school an awesome place for students and families.

We've nearly made it to the holidays!!!!

Changes to the School Donations Scheme

The BOT have decided to opt into the School Donations Scheme from the beginning of 2023. They believe it will be more financially beneficial to students and in the past we have not been able to opt into this scheme. Please note that there are exceptions for camps and overnight trips. More information on this scheme can be found on the ministry website:
