DESE Comprehensive Review
As you may know, DESE is conducting a Comprehensive Review of Framingham Public Schools starting this week. Below is a schedule of the days that it impacts Dunning.
Monday - February 25
- All elementary principals @ orientation in the Perini Boardroom from 8:30-9:00am
- Human Resources and Professional Development I Interview - SPED Conference Room 12:15-1:45pm (Schecter)
Tuesday - February 26
- Teacher Focus Group - 3:45-4:45pm @ Potter Road and Wilson Elementary.
Thursday - February 28
- Classroom visits @ Dunning 10:15-12:15pm (DESE CHOOSES THE CLASSROOMS THAT THEY WILL BE VISITING)
Here is the tool they will use for their observations: DESE Classroom Observation Tool
Here are their guidelines: DESE Guidelines for Classroom VisitsPBIS Updates and Reminders
This month please choose a Student of the Month that has never received it before. The form is linked here, and indicates who has received it either this year or last year. Please work to ensure that all children have an opportunity to be recognized for their hard work in following our core values. If you have any questions, please ask your grade level PBIS rep.
Please continue to recognize expected behaviors with panda paws. The buckets have looked a little empty lately, and recognizing many kids is the best way to ensure that many different students get their named pulled.
Please fill out the PBIS survey that was sent from Kelsey via email.
Also, please remember that ALL STAFF should be greeting students in the hallways at morning arrival (not just classroom teacher). It's a great way for a whole community to start out day together!
FROM THE OFFICE
spirit week
Each day is inspired by a Dr. Seuss Book!
Monday: Cat in the Hat Day - Crazy Hat or Hair Day
Tuesday: Fox in Socks - Crazy Socks Day
Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday - Wacky Day (clashing colors, silly outfits, etc.)
Thursday: Oh, the Places You Will Go - "Profession" Day (What do you want to be when you grow up? Dress the part on Thursday!)
Friday: The Sleep Book - PJ Day
For Teachers:
Karen is planning on having her Dr. Seuss books out and available for the week. She will plan on doing a Dr. Seuss read-aloud during library times.
Following are links to Dr. Seuss Read Alouds that teachers can share in their classrooms if you want to. It is not an expectation.
Each day there will be a Mystery Reader (picture and/or video) set up in the cafeteria. During lunch, students will have the chance to enter into the raffle by guessing the reader on a piece of paper. At the end of each day we'll have a drawing. Students can win Dunning accessories or the chance to read aloud to another class (student's choice!).

ALL STAFF INVOLVED IN ADMINISTERING MCAS: Please verify that you can log in to PAN this week (see directions below). Please let Amy know ASAP if you are unable to get into the test site.
MCAS INFO
This year Dunning will participate in the Infrastructure Trial. The window for this is February 11 - March 15. We will be making the schedule for that soon.
Updated MCAS English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science and Technology/Engineering practices tests and related resources are now posted here.
Please see guidance on graphic organizers below. Students should be using them NOW and they should be well practiced if they will use them on MCAS.
Graphic Organizers, Checklists, and Supplemental Reference Sheets for Students with Disabilities on Next-Generation MCAS Tests.
As a reminder, the Department does not permit the use of individualized graphic organizers that contain text or supplemental reference sheets for the next-generation ELA and Mathematics tests. This rule applies to all next-generation tests in ELA and Mathematics, including the new high school tests. Students with disabilities using accommodation A9 may only use these supplemental ELA graphic organizers and Mathematics reference sheets. These approved materials may be used as is, enlarged, or with text omitted. It is not permissible, however, to add text or references.
For the STE tests and high school Biology and Introductory Physics field tests, schools may use the sample STE reference sheets provided by the Department for students with disabilities using accommodation A9 (no additional approval of these sheets is needed). Alternatively, schools may submit a customized reference sheet for approval for STE following the procedures on pages 18–19 of the Accessibility and Accommodations Manual.
For staff that will be administering MCAS (and administered last year at Dunning):
School and district staff who had access to PearsonAccess Next (PAN) during the previous school year should log into PANto make sure their accounts are still active. If you are able to log into your account successfully, no further action is needed at this time. Accounts that were automatically disabled will receive an error message upon log-in; resetting the password will enable the account.
* For staff that are new to Dunning this year, you will soon be added to PAN if you will be involved in MCAS testing. You will receive an email regarding password setup once you've been added.
CARE & SHARE
Please remind your students to bring in items for Care & Share. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving. As an added incentive, the class that brings in the most each month will earn 15 minutes of extra recess on the new playground!
