News from the BMS Principal
Hello Bears of Bryan Middle School,
I hope you enjoy the fall break. Students and teachers have been working hard each day, and this will be a great opportunity to recharge. After the break, we will have three weeks until the end of the semester. We are going to be focusing on having students being prepared to learn in each class. This includes a focus on students being on time. Take a moment to have a conversation with your student about how they are managing their passing period time.
Bryan Middle will host a Douglas County COVID-19 vaccination clinic for students and family members aged 5 and up! Here are the details:
- Clinic dates for vaccine #1
- Wednesday, December 1
- 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, December 1
Anyone under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian present to approve the vaccine. If you have questions, contact your doctor or call the Douglas County Health Department at 402-444-3400. If our clinic does not fit your schedule, visit www.DouglasCountyHealth.com for a complete list of upcoming clinics.
Nonperishable Food Drive: From now until December 15, the Bryan Middle School council is running a nonperishable food drive to stock the shelves of the Bryan Middle School pantry. Students can bring items to the Cubs classroom, and the cubs that collects the most food will be able to push an administrator into the pool.
MTSS-B Dojo Dollar Holiday Store: Our school focuses on the 4 Be's: Be Responsible. Be Respectful. Be Safe. Be your Best. As students showcase these within the school, teachers award them dojo dollars. Once a month, we allow students to spend their dojo dollars. In October students could buy chances into a raffle or put points towards pushing a staff member into the pool (Mr. Karmazin was the winner of being pushed in!). In November students will have a chance to purchase Bryan Middle School items. In December we will be offering the holiday store. The holiday store is a chance for students to do some holiday shopping during the school day. With that, we are asking for donations to stock the shelves of the store. These donations could be new or gently used items that students might want to gift to a family member. If you would like to donate, please contact Mr. Karmazin, and we can plan for you to drop off items.
A few reminders:
Water Bottles: The water fountains are still shut off during the school day. We have places to fill up water bottles, so please send your student each day with a water bottle.
Masks: Masks are still required within the building at Bryan Middle School and on all buses. Please send your student in a mask each day. In addition, have a conversation with your student about keeping their mask over their mask and nose throughout the entire school day.
Checking Attendance and Grades: Last week I talked about checking your students grades through campus portal. I also would suggest checking your student's attendance. If you see a period marked with a T, your student was tardy to that class. Since every instructional minute matters, we need your help in ensuring students are making it to class on time each day.
Drop off and pick up: As the colder weather is moving in, please be cognizant of the building hours. Our front doors unlock at 7:00 AM, however, we do not start supervision until 7:10 AM, when breakfast starts. The student day ends at 3:05 PM. We want to make sure students are safe as they wait for school to start and for their rides at the end of the day.
Athletics: The Girls swimming season and Boys Basketball season are ending soon. We have been proud of the student athletes this season! The next seasons feature girls basketball, wrestling, and boys swimming. If your student is going to participate in one of those, or compete in soccer or track to end the year, make sure they have a current physical and proof of insurance on file at Bryan Middle School. You can email philip.taylor@ops.org if you have questions.
Thank you,
Mr. Karmazin
Principal
Estar a salvo.
Gracias,
Sr. Karmazin

NSCAS Growth Testing is coming!
