Jump Up Day
All fifth graders will attend a Jump Up Day this year. The purpose of Jump Up Day is to prepare students for the transition to middle school. All middle schools will structure this day the same and will give the same information to all students. Children may not attend Jump Up Day at their zoned school or their desired school of choice. Ms. Parks has permission slips and the list of which students will attend each Jump Up Day that she will send to teachers. The following days are our Jump Up Days.
February 12: Sullivan Middle School
February 13, Dutchman Creek Middle School
February 19: Rawlinson Road Middle School.
Safety Committee Notes (Info. about lock down drill, as well)
- The 4K and kindergarten playground has been renovated and replaced.
- The conference room door is randomly unlocked from the hallway. Please make sure that you are locking this door (and all other interior and exterior doors) when you use them.
- Our second lockdown drill will be on Tuesday, January 14th at 9:00am. This is an announced drill, and law enforcement will be present. We did not notice anything that needed to change during our last drill.
- A preventative lockdown is when something “bad” is happening outside of the school. You are safe to continue business as usual within the school building during this time. An emergency lockdown is when something “bad” is happening inside of the school. You are to take shelter immediately and completely lockdown in your area.
- Once a lockdown button is pressed, alerts are sent to district officials. At this time, you need to lockdown, protect, or flee. Your responsibility is to take care of the students in your care. The district office will take care of helping to protect the community and the outside area.
- Please make sure that the office is using the intercom LOCKDOWN button to initiate a lockdown drill. If you hear the lockdown tone, you should assume that this is a real event. In some areas, a blue strobe light will go off. “LOCKDOWN” will also scroll across the clock screen.
- If you are on the playgrounds, you need to go out the black push gates and off campus. For drills, you can stand by the fence. If you are in the classroom, secure yourself away from all exits.
- The only way to be released from an emergency lockdown is by an administrator or other official with a key. An announcement or a fire alarm does not release you from a lockdown drill. An intercom announcement can end a preventative lockdown.
- A new intercom was added to the turf area to help teachers and staff hear the siren while children are playing. This needs to be tested.
- Use your common sense and best judgement during an emergency lockdown situation.
- Consider having a conversation about lockdowns and other possible emergency scenarios with your students as you get back from Winter Break. This can empower them in their own lives.
- The First Response Team met with Nurse Cranford today. For an emergency health drill, an announcement will be made that “FIRST RESPONDERS ARE NEEDED IN THE _____.” All first responders will need to report to the area as soon as possible, and other teachers will need to help monitor these classes. A list of first responders and their responsibilities will be provided by Nurse Cranford during next Tuesday’s faculty meeting.

Accountability Information
While we are all responsible for building foundational science knowledge, this decision places extra stress on our 4th-grade team. This means that 1/3 of these 10 points on our report card rest on Ms. Laura Davis' class science scores and 2/3 of these points will come from Mrs. Rasmusson's class science scores. Please join me in supporting these teachers and the weight this puts on them.

School Garden
As it starts to get warmer, we would encourage you to think about how your grade level can use the Ebinport Garden. The school received approximately $900 last year to help refurbish the garden. We spent $400 to purchase class sets of supplies (gloves, watering cans, hand trowels, and so forth). We have a little over $500 that can be spent on purchasing plants or seeds. We are also exploring the idea of a sensory garden in one of the beds to provide another option for students in crisis who may benefit from a cool-down break outside. If you are interested in getting your grade level involved in any way, let Tanner know so he can get the materials that you need ordered.
Winter MAP Testing
We will MAP test beginning January 21st. The schedule is below. For our 3rd-5th teams, please let me know the times you will be testing your students, so we will be able to limit interruptions. We will test in the GT room for 1st and 2nd grade. If you need help creating your sessions, let me know.

Math Reminders
Math Textbook Caravan – February 27th, 2020
We ask that each school is represented by their math leader(s) and math coach (administrators are welcome as well). After the caravan, the math leaders will bring back necessary information to the school and all grade levels will submit their top choice of textbook company. Those grade level votes will create a school vote and the school votes will be compiled into a district-wide K-5 vote. In order to be fully informed, attendance to the caravan is highly encouraged. Dr. Holmes has graciously agreed to pay for the substitutes needed for the math leaders to attend the caravan; however, mileage will not be reimbursed. Please ensure you register for the Rock Hill location taking place on February 27th, 2020, using the following link.
à https://scde.formstack.com/forms/caravan_registration
Math leaders, please note that this caravan will take the place of the February 24th math leaders meeting, so you will not be out of the classroom two days that week. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
