Combs Middle School

A Message From the Principal

This time of year becomes sentimental for both staff and our eighth graders as they wind down their time at the middle school. We wish them well as they pursue their future at Combs High School.

8th grade Formal

Student council is working hard to make this night a success!

We look forward to seeing students dressed up and ready to celebrate the end of their time at Combs Middle School. The dance will take place on Friday, May 20th from 6pm-8pm. The theme is Hollywood.

8th grade Luncheon

Students Council will host lunch for all 8th grade students on May 20th.

8th Grade field trip.

We are excited to have this back on the calendar. Students will be going to the Main Event. The cost of the field trip is $20.00. All students are invited to attend however, any out of school suspension from today on will disqualify your student from attending. Deposits are due by May 9th and are non-refundable. If you are able to donate a little extra we appreciate it. We don’t want any student to miss the trip because of finances.

Exciting News

Take a moment to see our two art winners. They participated in the Blick Art competition and won. Great job!

This is a friendly reminder that the dress code is still being enforced. As of late, crop tops, tube tops and short shorts have made a strong comeback. Please partner with us in supporting the dress code policy per our student handbook.

No if’s, no ands, no buts. Not even if they are texting you.

Teacher Appreciation Week

CMS will celebrate “Teacher Appreciation Week” during the week of May 2nd-6th. Various activities will take place throughout the week on campus to recognize the dedication and service that the CMS teachers bring to our school community. Please encourage your child to take an opportunity during the week to write a note to thank their teacher.

3 weeks and counting.

Thank you for an amazing year!

Counselor's Corner

Combs Families, we are so excited that Summer Break is right around the corner. Here are some brief updates for the upcoming month of May:

Mindful Schools

As we continue to work on our Mindful Schools lessons with our students through the end of the school year, we have begun to touch on gratitude. When things are difficult, one of the best ways to uplift our minds is to find sources of gratitude and appreciation. We encouraged the students to not only think about the large things in life (family, friends, etc.), but to also focus on the small things (your favorite food, a cool breeze, etc.). During May, we plan to continue our gratitude discussion with your students.

Scheduling FAQs:

As the school year commences, we anticipate many questions regarding schedule changes. Please understand that we do the best we can to provide your child with the electives they chose but sometimes this is not possible. Typically, changes to schedules are ONLY made in the event that an error has been made (i.e. - a male student was placed in a girls PE class; a student was given FACS II class without first taking FACS I; a student has two of the same classes, etc.) However, if a schedule change is requested, it must be requested within the first five (5) days of the semester. If the change is approved, the student will receive a copy of the new schedule. Until that time, the student is expected to attend classes as they are posted on the student’s current schedule. Changing from an advanced class to a regular level class (or vice versa) will occur at the end of the grading period. The change requires the Principal’s approval and is dependent upon space being available in the requested class. Just a reminder, your student’s schedule will not be live until Meet the Teacher night.

It is important to note that schedules are subject to change throughout the beginning of the school year, as we balance classes.

Have a great summer, Combs Cougars and Families!

Cougar Family,

4th quarter sports are winding down and playoffs will be starting. As soon as the playoff schedule comes out I will be sure to send it out. All teams have been doing a fantastic job and improving each day. I love to see how competitive our teams are and the grit they show each day. Also, please be on the lookout for summer camps that are hosted by our high school sports. Flyers and emails will be going out to incoming freshmen.

Please remember that grades come first. If your child is wanting to participate in sports it is the expectation that they are passing their classes. We have an online tutoring program called paper, and throughout the week our teachers offer tutoring. Please take full advantage of this if you feel it is necessary.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
