Australia bush fires: Fight the flames
BY: Amelia Jost, Jack Craig, Cam Downs, Mico O’Brien,
Currently in Australia, tons of wildfires are spreading all over the continent. It is the worst blaze of the past two decades. Over 24 Australians have been arrested and charged with arson for starting fires. Thousands of people have been evacuated from an approximately 350 mile area. Around 30 people have died and over 2000 homes have been destroyed. Over 12 million acres of the country have burned. The University of Sydney estimated 480 million animals have perished because of the fires. Firefighters are currently combating the blaze all around the country.
Celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Hemsworth, Elton John, Kyle Jenner, Shawn Mendes and others are donating money to support the fires. Helicopters have been dropping thousands of veggies for starving animals escaping the fires. Nearly half a billion animals have been impacted by the fires in NSW alone, with millions potentially dead. American firefighters are helping Australia to help battle the flames. If you're feeling up for it, donate to Australia's Red Cross foundation (https://www.redcross.org.au/), a registered charity trying to stop the bushfires.

What is graffiti and what is the point of it?
By: Linda Morodai
Graffiti means different things to people, to some it’s vandalism and to others it art with meaning. Graffiti can be dated back to 10,000- 35,000 years ago with carvings in walls which were done by hand. Those carvings were used to tell stories to people and still are today, but back then they used that method because they didn’t have materials like we do now and days. Today's graffiti is used as art to entertain, explain, and or express. Sometimes people may do it to mark territory to show who’s turf is whose which is called 'tagging'. There are people who have resentment towards graffiti because it can be a way of destroying and ruining buildings, explaining why it’s illegal. Graffiti becomes a problem when people are ruining other people's property and causing them to have to repair it which can be costly. I set up an anonymous chat where people expressed how they felt towards graffiti:
"It’s cool if its art, if someone does it on top of a mural then it’s not cool and it depends where the location is of the graffiti it’s immature when people draw unnecessary or inappropriate stuff then it’s just considered disrespectful" -A kid from a grade
"It should be legal because it’s cool I don't really care about property being destroyed" -Some 7th grader
"Graffiti is cool, I like the vibes. Art is cool word for picture, I like graffiti I'm naming my kid graffiti put that in the article" -Charli, an 8th grader
All these answers are pretty similar. To sum it up, graffiti is cool, but it shouldn’t be tolerated if used in a bad way. We could make a space where people would be allowed to do their art. Hopefully someday it’ll be easier for both property owners and graffiti artists to comprise their opinions on street art.

Meat eating has become embedded in the american society. For this reason, we are not blaming you if you do eat meat. It is not a bad thing when it has been made very hard to not eat it. Although you should consider a couple of things first.
About 40.8% of land in the US is considered farmland. That evens out to be about 915 million acres. Out of that, 746.3 million acres are used to grow to feed livestock. That is more than a third of the total farmland. This is bad because it is wasting land that could be used to grow food for us or build houses or just for animals to live on.
The first thing that pops up when you search for “chicken” and go to images is not the animal, but the food. You have to scroll eleven lines before finding a single live chicken, and twenty-three more before finding another.
TAKE A PAUSE
With the end of the semester bearing down on us, lots of students are feeling stressed about final grades. In most of the core classes, we are receiving a lot of large bundles of work, and it can sometimes seem like too much to handle. In this time, it’s important to remember to take breathers. You will get through this, and it’ll all be over in a few weeks. Never be afraid to ask for help, whether it’s for school work, or if you just need to talk it out with someone. You are more than your grade, and no matter what you are worthy.

the life of Henrietta lacks
Lacks grew up in rural Virginia. After giving birth to two of their children, she married her cousin David "Day" Lacks. In 1941 the young family moved to Turner Station, near Dundalk, Maryland in Baltimore county so Day could work in Bethlehem steal at sparrows point. After Lacks had given birth to their fifth child, she was diagnosed with cancer. Tissue samples from her tumors were taken without consent during treatment and these samples were then subsequently cultured into the HeLa cell line.
Even though some information about the origins of HeLa's immortalized cell lines were known to researchers after 1970, the Lacks family was not made aware of the line's existence until 1975. With knowledge of the cell line's genetic provenance becoming public, its use for medical research and for commercial purposes continues to raise concerns about privacy and patients' rights.

In china they are holding Muslims in concentration camps. The Muslims have to take a class that tells them Islam is bad. If they break the rules the are taken to the black room and they get tortured. They’re rules are never allow escapes, Increase discipline and punishment of behavioral violations, Promote repentance and confession, Make remedial Mandarin studies the top priority, Encourage students to truly transform, Ensure full video surveillance coverage of dormitories and classrooms free of blind spots. Muslims haven't done anything wrong its the fact that they are Muslims that people are having a problem with.
New Tardy Policy Needs to Change
By Tee Jeske
The new tardy policy is a struggle for most of the school because some students classes are across the school and can’t walk fast. The day it started, I got swept up. It was not fun at all. I just want to say it is not fair for the whole school to be punished for something only a small group of people participate in. Most students do nothing to deserve a punishment so I think if the whole school fixed some stuff, this second part of the school year would have been better than it is right now. I have talked to some people about this big change and they think this is really stupid and it is really harmful to most of the student body this year. Most of my friends last year thought this year would be better, but it’s not that different and yes, we have improved a little bit, but there is more to be done.

I don't think it should not snow because I don't wanna stay home. I know it sounds weird, but I really don't because when I am at home I have to wash dishes, sweep, take out the trash, and mop. At school, all we have to do is do our work. Another reason I don't want it to snow is because if it snows, we have to make up for all the school days we missed and we can't get out of school early.
