The Fairview Connection

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
I hope you all were able to enjoy some extended time with your family over spring break. It was nice to have a quick break prior to the home stretch of this school year. With just over 9 weeks remaining, we have a lot of excitement at Fairview that our students are sure to enjoy, and I am looking forward to these final couple of months of the school year. Next week, District 57 will celebrate Disability Awareness Week. At Fairview, we will take time each day during morning announcements and through classroom activities to raise student awareness about different disabilities that people face and the ways they work through challenges. Our goal is to raise awareness and empathy while also inspiring students with stories of courage, perseverance, creativity and achievement. As part of this week, we are raising funds for Gerry’s Cafe, a local business that hires and trains employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities. If you’d like to support this cause, please click on this link for more details. Special thanks to Fairview special education teacher, Katianne Olson, for her leadership efforts in planning for Disability Awareness Week.
Coming up on Monday, we have our Capannari’s Coolest School Contest Day. Stop by Capannari Ice Cream on Monday between 3:00-9:00 pm and 10% of all sales will go directly back to Fairview! Also coming up on Monday is our next Fairview PTO meeting in the LRC at 6:30 pm. We encourage parents to attend to learn more about what the PTO has planned for our school for the remainder of the school year. Looking further into next week, we are excited to host our next PTO sponsored assembly by inviting the Science Spectacular Laser Show to Fairview on Tuesday. Also, on Friday, we will have our next special lunch for those who ordered. Students have a lot to look forward to in the days ahead! Thank you for taking the time to read today’s newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to seeing our students back at school on Monday.
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
