MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS

Dear Fairview Families,

I hope you all were able to enjoy some extended time with your family over spring break. It was nice to have a quick break prior to the home stretch of this school year. With just over 9 weeks remaining, we have a lot of excitement at Fairview that our students are sure to enjoy, and I am looking forward to these final couple of months of the school year. Next week, District 57 will celebrate Disability Awareness Week. At Fairview, we will take time each day during morning announcements and through classroom activities to raise student awareness about different disabilities that people face and the ways they work through challenges. Our goal is to raise awareness and empathy while also inspiring students with stories of courage, perseverance, creativity and achievement. As part of this week, we are raising funds for Gerry’s Cafe, a local business that hires and trains employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities. If you’d like to support this cause, please click on this link for more details. Special thanks to Fairview special education teacher, Katianne Olson, for her leadership efforts in planning for Disability Awareness Week.

Coming up on Monday, we have our Capannari’s Coolest School Contest Day. Stop by Capannari Ice Cream on Monday between 3:00-9:00 pm and 10% of all sales will go directly back to Fairview! Also coming up on Monday is our next Fairview PTO meeting in the LRC at 6:30 pm. We encourage parents to attend to learn more about what the PTO has planned for our school for the remainder of the school year. Looking further into next week, we are excited to host our next PTO sponsored assembly by inviting the Science Spectacular Laser Show to Fairview on Tuesday. Also, on Friday, we will have our next special lunch for those who ordered. Students have a lot to look forward to in the days ahead! Thank you for taking the time to read today’s newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to seeing our students back at school on Monday.

Sincerely,

Dan Ophus

Fairview Principal

PTO "READ-A-WAY" PROGRAM

Read-A-Way is a reading incentive program from the Fairview PTO partnership with Station 34 in Mount Prospect. Students have a chance to earn a free kids pizza every month by meeting their daily reading goals. This is the last month for this program. Thank you to Mrs. Patterson for all she did to organize this for our students.

Please remember to turn in your completed March calendar no later than April 6th. Make sure that your name and your teacher's name are on the form.

BIRTHDAYS

The Fairview PTO has a wonderful history of giving students a book for their birthday. For the 2021-2022 school year, they are continuing that tradition. If your child is celebrating a birthday this month or has celebrated a birthday since the beginning of this school year, please have them go onto ClassLink on their chrome book and go to the Birthday Book link or click on the graphic to access the link. They must choose a book that is on the Google document listing all the grade level books.

If your student hasn't selected a book, please remind them to make their selection. Make sure they go to ClassLink or click on the birthday cake to make their selection...don't forget to pick the tab for the appropriate grade level list.

STUDENT SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT PROCEDURE

The office's procedure for those times when you need to sign your child in or out of school has changed. We maintain an electronic sign-in/sign-out sheet in the office so all you have to do is drop your student off (if arriving late) and we will sign them in and get them down to their class. If you need to sign your child out, ring the doorbell, tell us who you are picking up, and we will send your student out the front door.

BUS RIDERS

Is your child a bus rider? Are there times when they will be picked up instead of riding the bus home at the end of the day? If so, it is important that the school office is aware if a student will not be riding the bus home. Please click on the bus for a handy form that you can fill out and send to school with your student. You can always email the front office and the teacher to let us know of an alternative end of day transportation plan.

FROM NURSE BRUNNING

Please send a copy of your child's COVID vaccination card to the health office after your child receives dose #2 of the COVID vaccine.

KEEP THE FRONT OFFICE INFORMED

When emailing your student's teacher regarding vacation plans, illness, doctor appointments, etc., please include the front office staff in your communication.

Also, please contact Fairview School’s office if your home/cell phone number, emergency contact numbers, or email address have changed.

If you have moved, please immediately contact the front office so we can update your student's records.
