Tigerville Times
May Edition
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Tigerville Families,
It is hard to believe that it is May! Where has the time gone? Please help us have a strong finish to the school year by having your child be present at school every day. We still have learning to do! Also, we have many upcoming school events listed on our school calendar that you will not want to miss. As always, feel free to come have lunch with your child. Children feel special when they can eat on the stage or in the small dining area with their families.
Thank you for all that you have done to make this a special school year. We have a fantastic school!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jackson
News from the Literacy Specialist
Preventing the Summer Slide
The good news is that we can prevent the summer slide. There are lots of literacy activities that we can do over the summer with our kids to help them practice (in a fun way!) all the things they have learned. Below are some reading tips.
1. Read - The single most important thing we can do is to have our kids read. Read with our kids. Read to our kids and, have kids read independently. Do this every day!
2. Get Cooking - Cooking together requires reading a recipe and following directions.
3. Chalk and Paint Words - Review spelling words, sight words or vocabulary words with fun activities. Use sidewalk chalk or a bucket of water and a paint brush to “paint” words on the concrete or brick. Then watch them disappear.
4. Summer Word of the Day - Each morning have a new vocabulary word written on a card and place it at the breakfast table. Together, talk about the word and define it in kid friendly terms. See how many times throughout the day everyone in the family can use the word.

Tigerville Students and Families,
I want to thank all students and staff members who have filled out and decorated a kindness flower for student council! As you can tell from our “kindness tree” Tigerville is blooming with kindness! This month we will be learning about confidence as we get ready to move up to the next grade level. Student council will meet May 8th and we will have our student council celebration on May 30th. Thank you so much for a wonderful year!
