Student engagement occurs when the student exhibits active participation as a result of teacher actions.

Team:
Take some time to reflect on a lesson you gave your students this week and then consider our collaborative definition of engagement. Did the lesson create an environment of engagement or compliance? Are students truly mastering and learning the material or are they simply following directions you provided? Are they asking questions to enhance their learning or asking about due dates and grades?
How high up on Bloom's Taxonomy are your lessons? What does the TEKS ask of the students and how is it being provided? These are all substantial pieces of the instructional puzzle we should be considering as we build our lessons.
We can't be at the creative level ALL the time...but we should start at the bottom (beginning of unit) and work our way to the top (end of the unit). Each lesson is like a building block...building on knowledge and depth until complete mastery is met.
None of this can happen without expanding the student's Hippocampus. The Hippocampus can't be expanded without building positive relationships and caring for our students. ALL of our students deserve this..even when they refuse to accept it.
The work we put into educating our students is the most important thing we can do daily. Focus on the work!
***Veterans Day Celebration*** - We have partnered with BJH to provide a Veterans Day program in the big gym. Details to come.
Finally...take the time to fill out this survey if you haven’t already. Thank you!
Have a great week!
Be intentional about engagement!
