News for the Week of September 19, 2016

Good Evening !! WOW!!! What an awesome time we had at Camp Tecumseh. I am sure that you have heard all about camp and the fun times that was had by all. The students were fantastic, learned a lot, and had so much fun!! A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the chaperones that took 2 days out of their busy schedules to go with us. This trip is not possible without all of your help.

Just a couple of general notes:

  • Communication Journals came home on Wednesday- Please make sure and check out what your child had to say about last week. Please respond back to them.
  • PVE's Jog-a-Thon is September 28th! Students are getting excited for their last Jog-a-thon at PVE. We will be running from 1:30-2:30. If you would like to volunteer for this fun event, please click here for our Sign Up Genius page.

Cope's Curriculum Corner

Curriculum For This Week!!

Reading: This week, students will be listening to Little House on the Prairie during read aloud time. Students will be making connections between the book and their experience at Camp Tecumseh. Also, students will be doing some cross-curricular work with Science during Reading this week. Students will be looking at weathering and erosion in their Science Fusion books on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We will be getting back to Reader's Workshop on Thursday.

Writing: This week, we will be writing about our Camp Tecumseh adventures. Students will write about their favorite part of camp and write informational paragraphs to future 4th graders going to camp.

Language: This week, we will begin Unit 3. Students will be learning their new vocabulary words and motions. Students will also be completing activities on finding the meaning of words, finding just the right word, and applying the meaning of the word. Please ask your child to tell you a couple of their new vocabulary words each night and have them show you a motion that goes with that word.

Math: This week, students will be reviewing skills in preparation for Unit 2. On Thursday and Friday of this week, we will dive into Unit 2. Unit 2 consists of multiplication and geometry. We will discuss square number patterns and the area of rectangles this week. Science: This week for Science, students will be learning how weathering and erosion shape the earth's surface.

Social Studies: Last week's Camp Tecumseh adventure gave us some first hand learning on life for some of Indiana's first people. This week we'll use this knowledge to spring into our investigation into the native american tribes in the area and how they lived

On Thursday afternoon, we will have Genius Hour again with Mrs. Drake. Last week, we worked on Google-able and Nongoogle-able questions. We thought of questions for 4 different topics including school events, school morale, outdoor spaces, and school issues.
