We will have a special presentation by the Gaston County Museum of Art & History on Thursday, May 7, 2015 immediately after school. Your child is bringing home a permission slip today if they expressed interest in this after-school activity. Please return the permission form by Thursday morning since no students will be allowed to call home for verbal permission for safety purposes. Students should wear comfortable shoes and be picked up in the car line at 3:45 Thursday afternoon.

More Information about the Gaston County Museum's Program

From Citizen to Soldier: The American Civil War This program will allow students to explore what it was like for a citizen to become a soldier during the American Civil War. This program will include military drilling, examples of a soldier’s camp, and looking at women’s roles during the war.

May 14th Club Meeting

We will have a special presentation about the Civil War and the Battle of Gettysburg by the Jeff Cash, Chief of Cherryville Fire Department and Civil War/History buff, on Thursday, May 14, 2015 immediately after school. Your child is bringing home this permission slip today as well. Please return the permission form as soon as possible so that I can adequately plan a space for the presentation. Again, no students will be allowed to call home for verbal permission the day of the program for safety purposes. Students should be picked up in the car line at 4:00 for this program (note the time difference for the two after school programs).

Saturday Field Trip Opportunity

At this time, we are planning to take a Saturday field trip to a Civil War event at Lewis Farm in Ranlo. If parents/families would like to attend the event, you can bring your child directly to Lewis Farm. I will provide information about the event below. We will also take one activity bus (for students only) if parents cannot attend. Students CAN NOT be dropped off at Lewis Farm by their parents unless a parent/guardian is also staying for the festivities.

For students wishing to ride the school activity bus, complete the permission form that your child brought home today. On Saturday, May 16th, please meet at the red picnic tables behind the school. We will leave promptly at 9:15. Do not leave your child at school until you have checked in with Mrs. Heavner!!!!!
