Rogers & Roberts Class Update
September 15, 2017
ELA
This week we talked about finding the theme of a story. We listened to a song, "Am I Right" to try and figure out the theme and then watched a video where the artist discussed why they wrote the song and what message they were trying to give the reader/listener. We also had a great time in the media center for "Cafe Genre" where Mrs. Thoennes had students do a "book tasting". This involved students exploring different books such as Historical Fiction, Science Fiction, Realistic Fiction etc. Hopefully, this will encourage them to try out new kinds of books.
Math
The kids have been very busy in math. Place value has been completed and now we are moving on to rounding numbers. We will be doing numerous activities with rounding including taking a "pretend" trip to a restaurant and estimating the cost. The kids have done an excellent job with their last two problem solving activities. Their explanations have been really good and even though some of the answers have been incorrect, I see kids thinking and problem solving which makes me SO excited!
