George School's Family Update
MAY 10, 2019
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO OUR GEORGE SCHOOL FAMILY!
NEXT WEEK STUDENTS IN 3rd GRADE WILL BE TAKING OUR NEW JERSEY STUDENT LEARNING ASSESSMENTS (NJSLA) IN ELA AND MATH!
It is important that your child gets plenty of sleep and has a good nourishing breakfast each day in order to give your child the best opportunity for optimal performance on the assessment. Please be sure that your child arrives to school on time (students who arrive late will not be permitted to take the test that day and will be required to make-up the following week).
THIS IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO SHOW OFF WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN LEARNING!
THANK YOU MR. PALAIA FOR PROVIDING NJSLA WARM UP EACH MORNING FOR STUDENTS TAKING ASSESSMENTS! NEXT WEEK IS THIRD GRADE!
WHAT A GREAT TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CARDINAL STUDENTS OF THE WEEK!

FOOD ALLERGY AWARENESS WEEK - MAY 12-MAY 18TH
Food Allergy Awareness Week provides a unique opportunity to help raise awareness of food allergies and anaphylaxis. A food allergy is a medical condition in which exposure to a food triggers a harmful immune response. There is no cure for food allergies. Instead, they are managed by avoiding the problem food(s), learning to recognize symptoms of reactions and receiving appropriate treatment.
During announcements, students will hear an important fact or two about food allergies. George School will complete the week of Food Allergy Awareness by encouraging everyone to Wear Teal on Friday, May 18th.
SEASONAL ALLERGIES
Allergic rhinitis symptoms occur during certain times of the year, usually when outdoor molds release their spores, and trees, grasses, and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air to fertilize other plants. Even kids and adults, who have never had seasonal allergies in years past can develop them.
Signs and Symptoms: Usually come on suddenly and last as long as a person is exposed to the allergen. They can include: itchy/tearing/reddened eyes, nasal congestion/clear running nose/sneezing/itchy nose,·coughing
Diagnosis and Treatment: Talk with your doctor if you think your child might have allergies. There are many ways to treat seasonal allergies, depending on how severe the symptoms are. It’s important to monitor the daily pollen count.
At George School: During pollen season daily pollen counts are noted to the Pollen Count Meter next to the Health Office. Check it out!!
