Weekly Academics
Reading Street:
•Question of the Week; “What new things can you do as you get older?”
•Amazing words: duckling, pond, brave, proud, paddle and plunged
•We recognized and named uppercase and lowercase letter: Rr, Ii, Mm, Cc, Pp, Tt, Ss, Bb. Nn and Aa
•Identified initial and final sounds within various words
•Introduction to the letter Rr. Initial and final /r/ sort
•High- frequency words: I, am, the, little, to, a, have, is, we, like, me, he, for, me, she, with
•Animal Fantasy and sequencing
•Verbs for than and now (using –ed for past tense verbs like jumped)
•Used our “rubber bands” to help sound out CVC words like rat and rip
•Some of our favorite books that we read are Little Quack, When I was Little, Little Quack’s New Friend and There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose
Handwriting:
•Reviewed headline, midline and baseline
•Practiced writing uppercase and lowercase letters Rr, Bb, Nn, Ii, Ss, Aa, Mm, Tt, Pp and Cc
•Helpful strategies when writing (finger spacing, capital letters, punctuation)
•The students were able to write about what they did when they were little, and compared it to what they can do now.
enVision Math:
•Addition review
•Subtraction
•Stories about subtraction and addition
Social Studies/Science:
•Shadows
•Groundhog Day
SEL: We continue to sit as a class and place ourselves somewhere on the Mood Meter J We continue to encourage the students to use “Kelso’s Problem Solving Strategies” to solve problems.
Reminders and Events
IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY, PLEASE RETURN YOUR INSPIRATION BOARDS. We will be using them on Monday.
-Please send in snack everyday. Healthy snacks are best!
-Monday, February 1st: Report card envelopes are due. Please carefully look through all papers given. Please sign the front sticker before returning.
-Wednesday, February 3rd: Certificate Photo Day. Please carefully read the memo given to you on Wednesday,
–100th day project is due Monday, February 1st

-Valentine’s Day boxes are due Friday, February 8th *Please DO NOT write the names of the students on the cards. Your child will be walking around and placing one card into each mailbox. Your child should sign his/her name only. Please DO NOT include any food.
