Director's Newsletter
February 2020
Dear Parents,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for all your support over the last few weeks in ensuring that our AJAC community remains strong and positive during these challenging times.
The Ministry of Education (MoE Decree 229) has stipulated that Distance Learning will continue for students at Ajman Academy for the remainder of this academic year until June 2020. In accordance with this decree, all students must continue their re-registration and enrollment during this period. It is important that this is adhered to as it has been stated that non-compliance will mean that the student is withdrawn from the academic year. Unless the MoE makes a further announcement to the contrary, the distance learning programme will be treated as “normal” learning as if students have actually attended school.
As mentioned in my previous communication, the current events and precautionary measures are unprecedented. A pandemic outbreak, along with self-isolation/quarantine, has made life difficult for all across the globe. However, my team and I have been incredibly impressed by the levels of commitment shown by our students and how much they have enjoyed their distance learning experience. We are constantly trying to improve our provision and always welcome your feedback in trying to evolve further with our distance learning programme.
To this end, I would be pleased if you could complete the brief survey below by clicking on the link. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WK6S6RN
The feedback to our initial survey highlighted that our Showbie and Seesaw applications have worked very well, but the Explain Everything platform had connectivity issues making it difficult for our students to use it as a live link application. As a result of this feedback, we will be transitioning to Microsoft Teams, from the 12th April 2020, for elements of live learning. Additionally, and in order to offer more support to our students during the coming months, teachers will plan for short personalised one to one live sessions providing an opportunity for discussions on well-being and concerns. Homeroom teachers and Form tutors will liaise directly with students; specialist teachers may also join these events to maintain teacher/student relationships. More details will be communicated to you through our Primary and Secondary school sections in due course.
We realise that at times you will require support or further information on how to support your child/children at home; therefore, I have again listed the important contact numbers and emails below:
Normally at this time of year, our older students are busy preparing for exams. In the light of all GCSE and AS / A level examinations being cancelled this year, our main aim is to support our students in attaining grades using criteria that will be laid out by Ofqual; the UK government exam agency that regulates exams and tests. We are still awaiting details of how this process will take place, but it is inevitable that some element of teacher assessment and prediction of grades will be involved. I am confident that the process will be a fair and equitable one. Ofqual will aim to provide calculated grades to students before the end of July. In terms of a permanent record, the grades will be indistinguishable from those provided in previous years.
I think I can speak for all when I say that without our students and community, the school is just a building. It is our community that brings the school to life. The Ajman Academy team and I wish that you all remain safe and healthy during this time and we look forward to when our students can be back at school.
Yours Sincerely,
Fiyaz Ahmed
Director of School
