A Peek At Our Week

January 19-22


Last week students took the District Reading Benchmark Test. More information about scores will be sent home later this week. I will be working with students in small groups during reading time to cover specific skills as needed.

Homework journals are due this week-all students were given a new menu board and parent signature log for the third marking period.

This week we begin a unit on Poetry.

  • Characteristics and Forms of Poetry
  • Structural Elements and Rhyme Scheme
  • Simile and Metaphor
  • Sensory Language/Personification/Onomatopoeia

Writing/Language Arts

Literary Essay

Students will be writing a Literary Essay on the book, "Those Shoes"

This is a book we have read in class several times and have discussed in detail.

  • Stories vs. Evidence
  • Citing Text Evidence (Quotes)
  • Author's Craft as Evidence
  • Constructing a Literary Essay

This week in Revising and Editing, we will be working on Simple and Compound Words.

Social Studies

Last week we finished our unit on The American Revolution.

This week we launch our next unit on Industrialization/Colonization.


This week students will be given new words for the normal two week spelling cycle. They will cut/sort words by pattern and write spelling sentences in class. Next week they will complete three activities in class. The next test will be Friday, January 29th. Words will be uploaded to my website by the end of the day on Tuesday.

  • The Third Marking Period begins this week.
  • Fit Girls begins on Tuesday, January 19th. (Every Tues/Thurs)
  • 1/25- Report Cards go home (remember to sign and return with envelope)
