Karen Gill

I wanted to let everyone on staff know that Karen Gill will be taking a leave of absence, effective Wednesday, February 6th. Karen will be undergoing surgery and will be out the remainder of the school year. Her goal and plan is to return by the start of next school year. As most of you know, Karen is used to to taking care of others and so learning she will need to be taken care of for a while hasn't been the easiest news. She is asking for privacy and positive thoughts and prayers as she heads into surgery.

We are in still need of a long term substitute teacher and are continuing our search. If you happen to know of anyone who may be eligible to cover the class for the remainder of the year, please let me know. I will let everyone know once we have someone on board.

Lastly, Karen is telling her students and families this week. We know this will be a difficult process for them and we appreciate your support and patience. With that in mind, we are asking that staff keep this information in confidence and to avoid talking with the larger community about this personal matter. If you have any questions, please reach out to me anytime.

Glows and Grows

Glows: Fantastic work with writing in several classes I visited last week. Highlights included strong mini-lessons on specific parts of the writing process and a ton of fresh student writing up. A member of the district level management team was on-site on Friday and was doing some observations. He stopped by to tell me that he was so amazed at the campus and the dedication that our teachers showed. Bravo!

Grows: MAP is coming up next week! What message will you be sending to students about MAP growth goals and the upcoming assessment?

Writing PD (**Wednesday 1/30)

We will host a writing professional development workshop on Wednesday, January 30th. The work will be focused on grades 2-5. I look forward to seeing our 2nd-5th grade teachers at the session. It will be located in the library.

ELPAC Coming up

The ELPAC Summative window is opening February 12th and we need your help! Please check out the latest email from Jennifer Baker and reach out to her by February 1st if you are interested in a short training and are willing to help us out in this process. Please remember, the success of our EL students is a large area of need based on the summative data available to us. Your help here is much appreciated!

Spring Social Skills Groups

We are headed towards the end of our first social skills groups and are searching for candidates for our second group. If you a student that you think would be a good candidate, please let me know (even if you submitted the name before). Your attention to this is appreciated.

Mindfulness

Thank you to everyone for welcoming Mr. Matthew onto our site. I have received a ton of positive feedback from our students and even got to sit in on a lesson in Mrs. Symanski's class. Please note that it is really important that we engage WITH our students and the lesson when Matthew is in the room. Mrs. Symanski was the perfect example. She was participating while keeping an eye on students to make sure they were being respectful of the speaker.

MAP Testing Coming up

MAP testing window is from Feb. 4th -22nd. I recommend that you give MAP testing the first two weeks so the last week can be held for make ups. We will not need to create a testing schedule for this since everyone has their own chromebooks now.

A few important notes from assessment operations:

· Students will have ONE opportunity to test in Reading and mathematics. They will no longer be able to retest. This will help keep testing to a minimum. It is critical that you proctor and monitor the students closely so that you can be sure students gave their best effort so that accurate data is measured on where students are in their learning. In addition, the system will prompt the proctor letting them know if a student is "rapid guessing".

· Equity for All - Accessibility & Accommodations - Removing Barriers - Be sure to look at the available supports. Here is the link to see what is available in MAP

· To turn on Text-To-Speech - Simply turn the Chromebook on and click on "Ctrl Alt Z and this will turn on the ChromeVox spoken feedback feature. Then open the MAP APP and the screen content will be read aloud. Students will need earbuds.

Here are the test names for each assessment by grade level.

PLEASE BE SURE TO SELECT THE CORRECT NAME FOR YOUR GRADE LEVEL WHEN SETTING UP YOUR TEST SESSIONS. This will ensure that students do not have the ability to select the incorrect test.
