Hello Heartland 6th grade families,
Edmond Public Schools requires all incoming 7th grade students to receive a TDAP booster vaccine, or have an approved state exemption on file. After your student has received this, please send updated immunization records to torie.moore@edmondschools.net or drop off a copy in the office. Please let me know if you have any questions!

If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.

Message for 6th Grade Principal
Hello Thunderhawks,
This past week was wonderful and I really enjoyed getting to see some of our 6th graders perform at our Black History Assembly! They did a fantastic job.
I want to remind all students that even though we are doing some incredibly fun activities…we still must always demonstrate and follow our RISE expectations.
We had the awesome opportunity to host the 5th graders from our feeder elementary schools during the assembly this past week. 6th graders, those 5th graders are looking at YOU. You are their role models and their example. Next year, it will be YOU who are stepping into leadership roles as you will no longer be the youngest in the building. Please remember that what you do makes a difference. Be kind, be respectful, show integrity. I am so proud of each and every one of you for all you’ve accomplished this far.
We have some fun things planned for next week. It is not too late to buy a wristband for $20. That wristband will get you into the afterschool Karaoke social on Monday, the after school dodgeball tournament on Tuesday and the DARE assembly during school on Thursday. That assembly is going to be AWESOME and you can bring $5 and PIE a teacher of your choice in the face!
WHY? Because we are raising money for City Care. It is our chance to give back to our community and this is one way we can do that.
I am looking forward to next week. We are just two short weeks away from Spring Break. With that being said, the missing assignment deadline is quickly approaching. If you have any missing assignments, please be sure to get them turned in before Spring Break.

Let’s make it a great week!

Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
We finished our unit on Plate Tectonics and are now ROCK-ing out to the Rock Cycle…pun intended. We will discuss each type of rock and have hands-on stations for each rock category.
Science ROCKS!
English
Hello Thunderhawks!
Our argumentative writing was due this past Thursday. As we move forward into our next unit, we will be exploring cause and effect in the text “Monster Waves and Mammoth Shakes”. We will have a comprehension quiz over the reading on Friday, and accompanying activities throughout the week.

Literacy
As we come to the end of February, we have just begun our Literature Circle unit. Students heard book talks over the many novels to choose from and make their top 4 choices (and one they definitely do not want). Teachers then will place each student in one of their top four choices. Students will then read that novel in a group of 3 - 4 students, discussing and answering questions as a group. We will be reading in these groups up until Spring Break. All reading is done at school unless a student has been absent for an extended period of time. Literature circles have always been a favorite of students and teachers as each group is reading something different.

Math / IA Pre-Algebra
6th Grade Math
Hello Thunderhawks,
We are continuing our work with Unit 8 on Equations and Inequalities. Weekly homework notes will continue this semester. Please check your student’s weekly canvas module if you have questions on when assignments or homework is due. Completion of homework is a vital part of our class learning and it also gives them a great resource if they need to complete any math work at home and they can also be used on all unit tests. If you have questions about homework, please contact your student’s math teacher.
FInally, if you would like to help donate to our classroom glue shortage, please check out our Amazon wishlist. Any donations would be appreciated.
6th Grade IA Pre-Algebra
This month we will be working on Unit 6- Equations and Inequalities. We will be learning how to write and solve one & two step equations and inequalities. We will also learn how to identify equations with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions.
