From the Desk of Principal Roberts

Dear Rattler Families,

We had a great time this year with our APEX team and obstacle course! You can see all of the information below on the APEX fun fact sheet. Thank you to all that contributed to the success of this fundraiser. We could not have done it without you! All of the funds received will be used to support the students right here at River Ridge in innovative and meaningful ways.

Next week, our teacher will engage in professional learning on Monday and Tuesday, while our students get to enjoy a small Fall Break! Please use this time for your kiddos to rejuvenate and refresh so that everyone will be fully charged headed into the 2nd nine weeks.

Last but not least, we are hosting a coffee talk on Wednesday (10/12) right here at River Ridge to learn all about Prop A and Prob B that will be on the ballots this upcoming election. We invite you to join us at 9:15 Wednesday morning in our cafeteria. Please remember that ALL visitors will need to be checked in via the raptor system. We are expecting a larger crowd, so please make sure you allow yourself extra time to get through the check-in process.

Have a wonderful week!

With Joy,

Shelley Roberts

Literacy Partners Needed

Literacy Partners is a partnership between Leander ISD-approved volunteers and select Kinder-3rd grade students who practice reading together and engage in conversations about the books being read. Literacy Partners serve with consistency and humility while keeping it simple. The program involves a WEEKLY 1x1 reading session (right outside the classroom door) with TWO children for 15 MIN EACH, from OCTOBER TO APRIL.

Opportunities at River Ridge

We are also looking for some great new additions to our already stellar staff. If you find any of these opportunities interesting, please feel to contact me (shelley.roberts@leanderisd.org), Gareth Cook (gareth.cook@leanderisd.org), or Dorothy Yip (dorothy.yip@leanderisd.org).

  • Special Education Instructional Assistant Position - This job opportunity would focus on working with students who receive special education services. We are also open to a job share opportunity with two individuals interested in part-time work.

Let’s Learn with Superintendent Bruce Gearing: Elections

In an effort to create educational awareness about the November ballot, Leander ISD is hosting a series of conversations. Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., will lead a discussion about Propositions A & B over the next several weeks ahead of the November 8 election.

Due to sizable recent increases in property appraisals across our region, the district’s property values have reached a point that has triggered two elections: an Attendance Credit Election (ACE) and a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE).

We encourage the community at-large to learn more about these ballot issues during the following opportunities:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 19 – 6:30 pm, Facebook LIVE

  • Friday, Oct. 21 – 12 pm at LISD LEO Conference Center

  • Wednesday, Oct. 26 – 6:30 pm, virtual Zoom webinar (link coming soon)

Please use this link Let’s Learn with Bruce: Elections to let us know you’re attending. While sign-up is not required, it helps us plan for how many participants to expect.

We have provided a number of Prop A & B resources as well as voting information.
